In the tick-tock quiet, a shaft of moonlight tickles the nose of something sleeping. It's a stuffed, stripy horse. He twitches. Then an enormous dusty sneeze echoes round the room. He's awake. So begins this charming story, all about a forgotten toy who can't remember his name. He is befriended by Muriel (a hummingbird who flutters off the pattern on a lamp), Hermann (a daft draught excluder), and Roly and Pitch (penguin-shaped salt and pepper shakers), and embarks on an adventure to meet Ming, a wise and ancient Chinese vase cat, who is the only person in the shop who might be able to tell him who he is. Thrills, spills, and some seriously silly situations await him on his adventure.
About the Author
Jim and Karen live in South London. Karen still works as a textile designer when she's not creating picture books, and Jim works in the publishing industry. The recently won the picture book category of the Sheffield Book Award for their first book Letterbox Lil (OUP).

This is the most lovely book youcould read to a child. My daughter is 2 and we have had to buy a second copy as she flicks through it on a daily basis! It is the most popular bed time read by far and just to see her face when she sees the cover it is just magical!

I read this to my mixed Reception and year 1 class. They sat enthralled by it. You could have heard a pin drop. It's a very sweet book, excellent illustrations, with lots of opportunities questionning and for using different voices when reading it. A great buy.

Nice introduction to the stripy horse...
Out of the three stripy horse books our three year old has, this is the first, but not the favourite...cute story but not as much fun as the other two.

What a fantastic book. The illustrations are great and highly entertaining and the story is so cute! A brilliant book.
