4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but not sure of its utility, 4 Oct 2008
This book deconstructs various styles that are hallmarks of style icons such as Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn etc. It encourages people to adopt a different style depending on their mood. While the deconstruction of the styles is interesting and well thought out, my problem with it is that to me style is not really about mood - it is about personality. Your style should reflect the person you are rather than looking like a cheap imitation of someone else. So, if someone's natural style is "gamine" nothing prevents them from dressing say "avant-garde eccentric" or "cutting edge cool", but the problem is they may also look like they are playing a part in a play rather than being themselves. This can be seen in the different "costumes" Trinny and Susannah have worn for this book. I call them "costumes" because in these clothes their own natural style (which is excellent) has been swamped and they look instead like fake Marilyn Monroe's and fake Grace Kelly's (and, I infinitely prefer the original Princess Grace and Marilyn Monroe). The book might be more helpful for those who are still trying to find their natural style.

1.0 out of 5 stars Toe-curling rubbish, 22 Oct 2008
This book is quite simply awful. Trinny and Susannah are scraping the barrel with this book and have obviously run out of ideas. They look terrible in a selection of joke shop wigs and ill fitting clothes and have no real understanding of what the icons they have chosen looked like. Terribly researched stocking filler rushed out for the Christmas market - avoid!

2.0 out of 5 stars Go back to the BBC., 19 Sep 2008
By LJW (uk) - See all my reviews
It seems to me that since Trinny and Susannah left the BBC the quality of their books has declined. This latest publication is substandard in comparison to their very informative earlier offerings such as "What You Wear Can Change Your Life" and "What Your Clothes Say About You."

Whilst I recognise the subject matter can reach a ceiling I found the "Survival Guide" very flimsy in terms of content, the "Body Shape Bible" is also limited but at least it is based on a useful and original concept. This latest offering "Who Do You Want To Be Today?" is quite interesting, but unfortunately has limited mileage and relies too heavily on media images and single photographs filling a whole page.

And surely courtesy of Trinny and Susannah, we all now understand that dressing 'right' means dressing exclusively for your shape, so how could we veer from "Androgyne: a girl in boy's clothing" (pg 74) to "Bombshell: hot and sassy" (pg 14) We are also aware that even shoe styles and jewellery are dictated by our shape rather than our taste. Come on Trinny and Susannah - we need information that is a little more realistic, most of us simply cannot afford to "...find the courage and inspiration to give it a go - just for one day." (pg 9)
