FAMILY TREE SOFTWARE - FOREWORD BY NICK BARRATT, Resident Genealogist on the BBC's Who Do You Think You Are?

"PCs and the Internet have made the task of researching your family history much easier than ever before. With vast amounts of data now archived on the internet, the odds of success for those seeking information on their heritage has dramatically increased.

Using this Family Tree Software, you can organise and store all the data you find on your family and ancestors and then create trees, charts, albums and reports to share with family and friends. Tracing your roots will take some investigative work and lots of time, but the end result will be a truly rewarding and emotional journey into your past!"

ABOUT THE TV SERIES

2.0 out of 5 stars Few Problems 29 Dec 2008
The family tree has a great layout and is easy to use and input information, but I have had many problems. I feel it should not have been released until problems were sorted. My main problem was it is not compatable with HP printers unless you go around the houses and the help pages and people to get it sorted. I have also been unable to register for the free months ancestry membership.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad 30 April 2009
    By A. Wild
Bought Family Tree Maker and like everyone else, the free trial didnt work
A freephone call to Utah and they rectified it.
The input is easy but i find it difficult to view the whole family tree with all the sub branches
    A good product though

2.0 out of 5 stars Wish they'd stop "improving" things 29 Jan 2009
    By Chester
I had to buy this in case my old Generations software became obsolete but all I want is a bog standard family tree. It's hard to glide through the generations and you end up in places you didn't want to go. I haven't managed to work out how to put the cause of death on whilst with my old software I could see all my facts at a glance. You don't see all the children displayed on the tree either and have to fiddle about to get them up. I am amazed how it links up with ancestry and does your work for you and it has flagged up links with other trees on ancestry which is useful if people ever responded. We didn't buy the most up to date version but I'm glad I saved the money and got this one as I prefer to keep things as simple as possible and i suspect this is the best I could hope for.

I found this product to be worth all I had read up on it.I have been trying to look into my family ancestors for a while. This product has helped me understand the fundamentals of looking into the past. The instructions are easy to follow. Through this product I have now managed to go back to the 1700's to find my ancestors and how they lived. If you are just starting then this is the product to obtain. It gives you all you need, to research your family history.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment 1 Feb 2010
    By L. Bell
I had high hopes for this software based on the link with the TV programme Who Do You Think You Are on the BBC. It did not live up to expectations. The screens took ages to navigate, the link with Ancestry did not work every time, and when it did work all I could get was exactly what anyone can get with an Ancestry free 14 day trial - you still have to pay to view any actual documents. After two days of frustration I gave up and went back to using software I downloaded for free from the internet, which I find excellent and just what I need to make sense of all the information I have already found about my ancestors. Don't waste your money buying this package.

4.0 out of 5 stars Family Tree Maker ( new) 14 May 2009
Layout is different from earlier version and takes a bit of getting used to.
Once familiarised, however, it works well and does all I would expect.
    Pleased with the product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Accessing Ancestry 6 Nov 2009
    Verified Purchase
This software is very good, easy to use and to print. As other reviewers, I had problems accessing the month's free subscription to Ancestry. However, it can be done. It is very time consuming and sometimes doesn't work at first. However, if you keep on trying, you will be able to access the image. This is how you do it -
When you have found the document you wish to copy:
    * click on view image. You'll immediately go to the page that asks you to subscribe or to activate more pay as you
    view credits.
    * Click the back arrow on your computer, to get back to the image transcript.
    * Click on the Home icon on the top bar.
    * Scroll down to your recently viewed items, on the right of the screen, below the advert for family tree maker.
    * Click on the last item you viewed. You will be taken back to the image transcript. If you click on view image now,
you will be allowed to access the image. (If it doesn't work, go through all the stages again and it will eventually!)

Although this is a time consuming way of accessing the subscription, it is better than missing out on it completely.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY 16 Jan 2010
Only buy this if you have the patience of a saint. The import function does'nt get all the data, the merge facility with websites to give you hints on possible family members cannot be ignored so you get multiple hints on your ancestors for un related people without being able to get rid of them and.......

If that wasn't enough it crashes every two minutes on a machine with 3 gig of RAM.

    Waste of Money!
