Opening with the original BBC theme single and launching straight into a painful orchestral rendition from early 1964 (which has been available for years on budget TV Theme collections), this hour-long disc will hopefully be the first of many Doctor Who compilations. Artists as diverse as The Human League, The KLF and Orbital have payed their affectionate musical tribute to the show, with actors from the series and '60s colour movies occasionally aiming for the charts, too.
This CD showcases the singles released between '64 and '72, when unknown bands such as The Jack Dorsey Orchestra and The Earthlings tried to cash-in on the show's success by putting the word "Dalek" in the title of their latest easy-listening number.
Among the gems you'll want to hear more than once are the tie-in tracks from the aforementioned colour movies: rearranged incidental music from Dr. Who And The Daleks (1965) and Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150AD (1966) and a novelty song called "Who's Who" sung by their 11 year old star, Roberta Tovey. There's also the Jon Pertwee classic "Who Is The Doctor" from 1972, and an unreleased track by Frazer Hines, who played Jamie next to Patrick Troughton's Time Lord.
... Read more ›There are lots of 1960's songs which capture the Daleks most popular era perfectly. The packaging is great with a fold out poster style insert with lots of interesting paraphenalia on it.
Highlights include;
Who is the Doctor? - by Jon Pertwee
Who's Who - by Roberta Tovey
and
Time Traveller - by Frazer Hines
This is jam packed with Rare and Classic 'Who' music. The price at Amazon is superb value.
If you want to remenisce back to Dr. Who's hayday this is the CD to do it with.
