Two brothers.

One mission.

And a whole world of trouble...

Sam and Jacob Redman. Two brothers, SAS through and through. They fight alongside each other; they watch each other's backs. They are ruthlessly professional in the field of war, fiercely loyal wherever they are. But when Jacob is booted from the Regiment for a moment of madness, he disappears. Not even his family knows where he is, or even if he's still alive.

All that is about to change. On his return from a brutal mission in Afghanistan, Sam is ordered to conduct another dangerous operation into an inhospitable part of the world. He soon learns, though, that his unit are not being told everything by their government paymasters; and so he is forced to choose between his duty to the men around him and his loyalty to the brother that he loves.

Is Jacob part of a plan that threatens world peace? As the body count rises, only Sam can stop these events from reaching their terrifying conclusion.

More About the Author

Chris Ryan was born near Newcastle in 1961. He joined the SAS in 1984. During his ten years there he was involved in overt and covert operations and was also sniper team commander of the anti-terrorist team.

During the Gulf War, Chris Ryan was the only member of an eight-man unit to escape from Iraq, where three colleagues were killed and four captured. It was the longest escape and evasion in the history of the SAS. For this he was awarded the Military Medal.

For his last two years he was selecting and training potential recruits for the SAS. He wrote about his experiences in the bestseller The One That Got Away, which was adapted for screen, and since then has written three other works of non-fiction, fourteen bestselling novels and a series of childrens' books.

His latest series of novels - the Extreme books take you even further into the heart of the mission with more extreme action, more extreme language and more extreme pace. Like Call of Duty or Medal of Honor, you'll feel part of the team.

He lectures in business motivation and security, and is a consultant for a security organisation. You can find out more information on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ChrisRyanBooks. You can also follow Chris on Twitter @exSASChrisRyan

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Poor 28 April 2012
By Mr. Ross Maynard VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback
I expected this to be a pacey and tense thriller. Sadly it does not deliver. The pace is pedestrian throughout and the storyline underwhelming, with a number of gaping holes which I found hard to swallow. The characterisation too is poor, and I found the whole thing a chore to read. The only good thing I can say about it is that it does keep you guessing about who the goodies and the baddies are, which is clever. Overall though, I wouldn't recommend this.

2.0 out of 5 stars slow start.... 26 July 2010
By fils48
Format:Paperback
having read all his other 14 titles i can only assume that mr. ryan has fallen out with his usual 'ghost writer' and employed the services of someone who doesn't know what an "action novel" is supposed to read like.

to say this latest novel is slow is an understatement... it took 150 pages before the story line became interesting.

glad i didn't buy it at full price.

so come on mr.ryan make it up with your old 'ghost writer' and let's have an interesting read next time...

5.0 out of 5 stars Exellent action-packed novel 17 April 2010
Format:Hardcover
This is a great thriller. Top-marks.

Chris Ryan knows how to capture your attention right from the outset, and hold it throughout.

There is a lot of drivel in this genre on the bookshelves today, but this book and this writer knows how to write!

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Always the best read 7 Jun 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Chris Ryan is always a good read. He knows how to keep you turning the page rather than put it down between chapters. With his knowledge and skill of being a real SAS man and skill of writing books makes Chris one of the best author's ever :)

1.0 out of 5 stars Bleh! 19 July 2013
Format:Paperback
You don't read a book like this for its fine characterisation or the literary quality of its writing. You read it for the fights and the excitement, but also because Chris Ryan's experience in the SAS makes you think that the detail is probably accurate. A Diemaco probably does have a C79 optical sight, you probably do put plumbers tape around the pistol grip to stop it slipping in hot countries. But this approach to writing means that it's important that the details are correct. I'm being fussy when it worries me that an MoD policeman and not an MoD guard checks the vehicle on entrance to the SAS headquarters and, in any case, the guard service and the MoD police were, for a while, merged, so you could argue that the distinction is not a real one. It's when, not that far into the book, that a crusty older officer is referred to as a Sandhurst graduate that my antennae really began to twitch. All British Army officers are graduates of Sandhurst. It's an important thing about the way the British Army officer corps works and one which I would expect everybody in the army to be aware of. I began to suspect that Chris Ryan may not actually have written this book by himself. At that point I could no longer maintain the suspension of disbelief that is essential to plot that is pretty much hokum anyway.

4.0 out of 5 stars Has it's weaknesses, still good though! ;0)
A good read but felt that Jacobs character lacked depth in his change of right and wrong, think abit more detail of his angst and hatred of what he went through would have helped. Read more
