I had to stop underlining parts because the whole book is important!, 3 Nov 2007
This review is from: Whiteness Made Simple: Stepping into the Grey Zone (Paperback)
I have just finished reading Whiteness Made Simple. Just wanted to say I sincerely appreciated it and I am glad you wrote it. I stopped underlining phrases/paragraph half way through in line with the fact that the whole book is important!
In terms of 'whiteness' it is rarely discussed. Many people who saw me reading on my breaks, on the train etc -all asked "Whiteness? What is that?" which is only further testimony of how white supremacy has deliberately cloaked itself invisible/normal.
I will be needing to purchase some more copies for some friends and have it high on my list of recommendations. If you are someone who seeks to understand how things work you will enjoy this book because it's NOT a book of random blaming. Its a book of understanding, with transparent reasoning!
IF YOU ARE considering writing essays/dissertations relating to representation in film and media (of black people especially), liberal race theory, imperialism or the modern day education system and its problems; you will find this book very useful!
I think Dr Lez Henry's contributions to social studies and the liberation of the oppressed are extremely important, deeply appreciated and I hope he will continue to write these essential works! I have learnt new things from reading this book as well as found much support for concepts I have also visited in my writings
