Product Description

Product Description
Snow White Turtle Doves is a contemporary love story set to the backdrop of the implications of the Iraq war. It is June 2004, and Ireland is preparing for the visit of George W Bush. Beautiful, tempestuous Isabella is struggling to hold onto Harry, while his passion for world politics pulls him away from her and into the antiwar protest movement. Sinead is a doctor whose experience of Baghdad during the first gulf war has changed her life. Moved by the letters she receives from Moussa, a surgeon in Iraq, Sinead joins the protest against the Bush visit to Shannon. But her campaign against the war quickly turns into a campaign of love for Harry. After a night of passion with Sinead, Harry fails to come home, Isabella makes her final decision and walks out on him, flying straight to New York without even saying goodbye. Will life ever be the same again?

5.0 out of 5 stars An oustanding new novel, 5 Sep 2008
By Pat Harrold "River Bank" (Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was drawn to this book because of it's medical backround and I am delighted that I found it.This is a beautifully written, utterly absorbing novel. It is extremely literate and intelligent, but also manages to be easy to read, funny and passionate. The book is about war, love ,theatre ,sex, medicine and growing up and is set in Ireland,New York and Iraq. You can see that it would make a great film.Juliet Bressan is an outstanding new talent ,with shades of Marian Keys,Peter Carey and Hanif Kureishi but a voice that is all her own.I can't wait for her next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, 3 Sep 2008
This is a beautifully written book - insightful, thought provoking, and gripping - what I like most is the writing style - it captures you!The story is intriguing, the plot is intricate - a great read!I found it hard to put the book down at times. I personally love it when an author relates to real life, ....and this is quite political, not just romantic -I have to say, I loved both aspects! It is like a great film in a book, you just get caught up in it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Ireland does modern love, 19 Jan 2009
By Gerardine Killeen (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is as good an insight into 21st century Ireland and the nature of modern love as one could hope to read. The contrariness of both life and love in the '51st State' are laid out with insight, wit, passion and an open mind. And peppering the ragout are counterpoint pictures of unsleeping, war torn Iraq and the City That Never Sleeps - touching, tragic and utterly connected through characters and storylines that underscore the writer's talent. Well done!

Buy it, read it and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpectedly Good
Although written from within a - usually fairly predictable - popular romance tradition, this book surprised me in lots of pleasant ways. Read more
