Product Description

Based on the best-selling and multi-award-winning novel by Zadie Smith, White Teeth is superbly adapted to the screen in this outstanding drama which features a compulsively watchable cast including Robert Bathurst, Phil Davis, Geraldine James, James McAvoy, Om Puri and more. Set in far from glamorous Willesden Green, London from the 1970s to the 1990s, White Teeth finds Archie Jones, interracially married to the post-Jehovah s Witness Clara, meeting up with an old colleague, Samad Iqbal who, with his family, has just arrived in England. The secrets they share from the past, and the secrets they will share in the future, are tossed and tumbled in a rich stew that bubbles with racial and sexual tension, new-found freedoms, old school politics, genetic science, animal liberation and the end of the world as we know it. It all adds up to a feast to be relished from start to finish.

At last this excellent series has found it's way onto DVD, after it was supposed to be released years ago and was 'pulled' at the last minute, for a video-only release.

It pains me that whenever John Sullivan's name appears anywhere, all that ever get's talked about is Only Fools And Horses - a great comedy, but hasn't it been on TV so much that we are SICK of it???

I remember recently seeing a TV interview with Belinda Lang(Kate)and she never mentioned (or wasn't asked) about Dear John, just a few shows including Two Point Four Children.....

It's a pity that UK Gold don't show this as much as they keep licking the backside of Only Fools.....

RIP Ralph Bates - what a great legacy!

I can't compete with Lady Sunshine's comprehensive review or disagree with any of it, this show was an absolute gem and has been woefully ignored until now. However, for some reason the main websites and the bbc have separate release dates for series 1 and 2. Don't be fooled into waiting unless you particularly want to, the complete collection (which includes the Christmas special) has been released, I have a copy bought in HMV today waiting to be viewed tonight with a couple of beers with the phone off the hook. Enjoy this classic!

Dear John was destined to take its place close to only fools except for the sad demise of Ralph Bates. A great series that can pull the twists and turns of any Only Fools show.

Highlighting the injustices of the 80's divorce system but also injecting some terrfic jokes on behalf of societies great losers it does leave plenty of room for sympathy for characters who are not far removed from our own pesonalities. This is a great series and made touching by the unsung comraderie that evolves between the characters. What evolves through both series is a circle of friends stronger than most of the strongest on screen and finally gives us all hope that no matter how desperate our situations might get maybe we can rebuild a new and fulfilling life.

Great fun and very touching - in a nutshell. Loved it then and still do. DEAR RALPH why did you go so soon?
