I'm excitied about this band...!,

I had not heard of this band until recently when I stumbled on their MySpace page through a 'Friends Link' with some other cool bands I like (Boredoms, Sonic Youth, This Will Destroy You) and I'm so glad I took the time to listen! Apart from the obvious comparisons to a lot of 'post-rock' and 'shoegaze' bands around at the moment, Electric Assembly also offer something new to this over-saturated genre avoiding emotional cliches. Their tunes build meditatively, looping swirls of rhythm and simple melody not dissimilar to the cream of classic krautrock bands like Neu! and Harmonia. I'll award this release 4 stars, but the only reason I've taken a star off is the second track on the EP '11:43' is 19m22s long - I don't have a problem with this, but if unlike me you don't have the patience to let music slowly unfold and envelope your thoughts, you may find this a hard push...I personally think it's a wonderfully audacious move! I can't wait to hear what Electric Assembly give to us next.

soundtrack a sunrise with beauty and noise in equal measures,
This review is from: White Splinter (MP3 Download)
I love the boldness of having a 19 minute drone rock monster as the second track! This ep will suit lovers of Spacemen 3, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine etc.'Broken', the sole vocal track on the ep, echoes Joy Division's Atmosphere with its haunting pad sounds. All tracks highly recommended. If you like this seek out their earlier 'Eyes On The Wall' ep.
