Hard to read

From the back cover: It was six years since Julie's world had turned upside down; since she had married Michael Pemberton and left England - and Robert. Now Michael was dead, and Julie and her small daughter Emma had come home again - only to learn that Michael had appointed Robert as the child's guardian. There was not much Julie could do about the situation, and as luck would have it, Emma took to her uncle at once - but how long could Julie bear being forced to have him a part of her life again? True he was soon to be married to the so suitable Pamela Hillingdon, but didn't that only add to the agony? For Julie was forced to admit that her attraction to Rober was as wild and strong as it had ever been. How could she put up indefinitely with this impossible situation?
MY THOUGHTS: This book was written in 1973 and maybe thats the reason it was hard for me to read it. The words just didn't seem to flow. I kinda had to force myself to read it. The beginning of the book was a bit slow and full of doom and gloom, well I guess since Julie's husband just died and there was all this tension among the characters. The book was just so -so for me. I'm glad I read it but not sure it I'll read it again. First off, I feel like they should have talked a little bit about Michael, the hero's late husband. I know he's not the hero but still, he seemed like such a nice guy for doing what he did/saving Julie and it seemed like they didn't really put a lot of importance on that. 2nd I'm confused with Julie's motives. I have no idea why she was flirting with Mr. Hillingdon (the father of the hero's fiance) And he's married. I mean I guess she wasn't flirting. From what I gather, she needed someone talk to, etc. but still, that was a little odd, considering he was married and of course people would talk. I know Anne Mather was trying to put a "love triangle" of some sort, but I think it was kinda forced in my opinion. As for Robert, he sorta sucked too. I have no idea why he was so adamant in going to this Venezuelan trip he was talking about and leaving before the wedding, etc. I think he went about it all wrong and that was why him and Julie parted ways. I think I would have been pissed off too if I knew my wedding was a week away and it had to be postponed! I just think Robert could have handled it better. I think the true hero of this book was the late Michael, eh. So I give this a 2 1/2 - 3 stars...
