If you are a fan of Connie Francis this is both an unmissable and essential buy even though it will cost you a body part perhaps. A five disc compilation of her earliest recordings including the deserved flops before 'Who's Sorry Now' plus radio transcriptions which are interesting but flawed by her attempting to copy other singers up her Christmas album of late 1959. Included are the complete tracks listings of hard to find early albums including the 'My Thanks to You' album with both different versions of the song 'I'll Close My Eyes' which were issued on the British and US versions seperately. Also includes all the tracks on her first album which was only issued in a 10 inch version. From Bear Family and includes a comphrehensive booklet and discography of the sessions and a few alternate versions and duff takes if you like that kind of thing. The only drawback is that is does not include any of the songs on the virtually unobtainable 'Fun Songs For Children' LP. However it does include the songs featured on the album of singalong trad songs that was given away by the Brycream company. And if you buy it you should also look out for the following equally expensive box set 'Kissing Twisting Going Where The Boys Are which continues the story up to 1962 and is possibly even better. In both cases you get plenty for your money with well over 20 tracks per CD. Bear Family promised another collection but it does not seem to have turned up.
If you are not a fan then why have you read this?

The White Sox and later 'Kissin Twistin goin where the Boys are' compilations from Bear Family Records are excellent quality and done with technical finesse. It shows Connie as we know and love her from all the many Vinyl recordings with added technology of the sound and frequency. Also the odd 'Takes' shows Connie on top of her musical talent, wether asking for quicker tempo or 'Pick-it up a shade Geoff'. It's true 'we' all await that promised 3rd Box-Set by Bear Family which would hopefully include many of the even better vinyl recordings like 'For Mama' - 'Live at the Sahara' - 'A New Kind of Connie' - 'Jealous Heart' - Movie Greats of the 60's' - 'The Wedding Cake' - 'On Broadway Today' - 'Great Country Favourites (with Hank W. Jr.)' - 'In the Summer of His Years' - 'My heart cries for you' - 'Sings songs of Love' 'Sings all time International Hits' - ''Fun Songs for Children' - 'When the Boys meet the Girls' and a few others. Only a few selected numbers from all these recordings feature in the plethora of CD compilations. A challenge for the copy right owners to extend the CD recordings to include these rarely heard takes? It is also worth noting the stunning quality of recordings cut at Abbey Road Studios - Full Stereo Sound at its best and finest although not all the songs chosen were Connie's choice! who knows, but at her very best. Although a lot of talk of Vinyl and Full Frequency Sound are trying to make a comeback, it's indeed sad to see how people are satisfied with 'tinny on the move' sound and music gadgets to listen to the music, where the original full sound is cut by some 35%. Also please someone out there try and have Connie's movies produced in European DVD format as well (apart from Where the Boys Are which is available).Read more ›

Nice 50's Pop! 29 Jun. 2004
By Martin 13 - Published on Amazon.com

Connie Francis is one of the best Fifties Pop products! Her voice was fabulous, so she could sing everything from , Country, Rock 'n' Roll, Teen Ballads to Traditional Pop.
On these five CD set you'll find everything she recorded in fifties. Only disc four is Rock 'n' Roll, mostly covers which are sometimes better than originals. Nice booklet, too!

This 5-CD set from Connie Francis is a wonderful collection of her many hit records and hard-to-find recordings. Connie can belt out any song, whether it is rock n' roll, a ballad, a jazz number, or country tune. These songs by Connie demonstrate why she has always remained a top female vocalist.
