Meet Born and Jada- both from the street and experiencing the effects that drugs can have on one's life. However- same place- different world.

Jada and her younger sister Ava flee their weak mother who ignores when her husband abuses her young daughters. At an early age Jada meets the reality that is the streets, especially drugs. Staying high means escaping her problems, but unfortunately this is an expensive escape. Funding her habit means prostituting herself, at the mercy of terrible men.

Born watches his father die from drugs and feels let down. Once the true kingpin and respected hustler, Born also greives for his father and seeks to pick up and do better from when he left off. From an early age, he locks down the streets of New York, but one thing is missing...a beautiful lady by his side.

In walks Jada into his life, after getting her act together from years of using drugs. Born becomes her saviour, and shows her love despite his hate for drugs, and invites her to share the fruits of his hustling labour. Money, power and parties are the perks of being Born's lady, a now well respected king in the drug world. Being that close to the other 'good high' life is all so tempting to Jada. However she made a promise to Born the now love of her life to stay clean...but can she do it...If so what is to become of her by crossing the hand that feeds her? If Jada reverts back to her old life the consequences can mean more than just bad memories. The course of her life can take one bad turn after the other- making it even harder out their on your own, especially when trying to get on your feet. Jada has to learn this the hard way and this is the journey that the reader follows, with many twists and turns...

This story is much more than just a love story. The characters are so well written, and certain things or events, you just don't see coming! This book had me hooked! The struggle of pain, love and survival is so well documented in this story and I feel everyone can take something from this book.

I went through this book in no less than 12 hours, between sneeking a peek while at my disk, walking through the streets of london getting home and not moving from the sofa. It is like sitting with a friend you haven't seen in ages and catching up on what has happened in their life. Oh my gosh, this book will draw you in from the first page!

The characters are well written and just jump right off the page and into your face, her scenes are just as well written... all i can say is her writting is amazing. Hood classic!

All I can say is if you have read "coldest winter ever" then you will love it, if you haven't read "coldest winter ever", I susggest you read it....

this is the first tracy brown book that i have read so far and all i can say is the woman is amazing in what she does unlike writers such as eric jerome dickey (although i enjoy his book aswell) she potrais both the female and the male perspective realistically so they are not shallow. You literally feel the ups and downs of both of the characters (jade and born) and the more you read the more you want to know.

however i have to warn that this book is very addictive, as i once got to university and realized i had forgotten the book at home... i actually missed 30 mins of my lecture just to get that book.IT'S THAT BAD!
