About the Author

American born Marilyn Kaye is an experienced teen and pre-teen novelist. She penned the best-selling series Replica in the late 1990s and early 2000s, as well as teen romance titles Runaway and Choose Me in the early 1990s. She is best known for her paranormal romance series, Gifted, and has also written Ticket to Love - a romance set in New York City - for Hodder Children's Books. Marilyn now lives very glamorously in Paris.

I have read and adored the entire Gifted series (also written by Marilyn Kaye) so had high hopes for this book. My expectations were exceeded! It is a well worth read and I could not bare to put it down!

White Lies and Tiaras by Marilyn Kaye, is a fun, well-paced book for high school students, college students or anyone who wants a quick escape to Paris. The descriptions of Paris, and of French culture in particular, from hot chocolate to wedding cakes, to interpersonal relationship norms to views of class structure, offer the reader an enlightening glimpse into French life and thinking. Two British couples go to Paris for the wedding of Lara's cousin, Jack, who happens to be the `x' of the other girl, Alice. The characters are credibly drawn, especially Lara's bf, the clumsy yet lovable Henry. The novel has a great cast: the conflicted X'es; the confounded groom; the gold digging evil mother-in-law; the absent minded professor; and the aged oblivious rich man. Then it has the dark stars, the cunning French gold digging bride and the secretive dashing Frenchman. The triumph of the truth over deception is comically realized as the clock ticks down to the wedding's "I do's". This book is both fun and educational, and would make an excellent addition to any school library, with headings such as France - Culture; Marriage - Customs; Paris - description and travel; Montmartre - History; France- Shopping.

Reading the book on a kindle offers the reader a few advantages. At one point Edith Piaf's post-war hit "La Vie En Rose," is mentioned. A few clicks and its playing in the reader's background. The same goes for the theme of Dr. Zhivago, just search and listen. Unfamiliar with the term `funicular'? tap search the web and find a picture. If only my kindle could bake like a French Chef.
