Product Description

Review

'This is crime writing at its best' Sunday Express. 'his prose sings' Telegraph. 'very good indeed' Guardian.

'Temple is Australia's greatest living crime writer' Daily Mirror. 'The fourth outing for Temple's intrepid lawyer Jack Irish is as first-rate a read as you will find anywhere' Daily Express.

Product Description

'Her name was Sarah Longmore and she was charged with murdering her former lover.' When Jack Irish is asked to look into Sarah Longmore's defence, he's more than happy to oblige. After all, whenever somebody seems as guilty as Sarah does, it's usually for a good reason. But her case will prove far from straightforward, and Jack's investigation far from swift and painless.

'The White Dog' is the third of Peter Temple's 'Jack Irish' books but published two or three years after the fourth book and NINE years after it was published in Australia.
I found the plot rather confusing and the writing disjointed. Sufficiently disappointed after waiting 2 years for the book to appear on Amazon, I went on and re-read the fourth book 'Dead Point'. Very good.
So was the delay due to copyright problems, perhaps a different publisher in Oz, or because his UK publishers thought it did not measure up to his other eight books?
I've given 'The White Dog' three stars as 'It's OK' by the standard of most authors writing in the private eye sort of genre, but if you haven't read a Peter Temple yet, start with his first Jack Irish 'Bad Debts' or try 'The Broken Shore' with Temple's police detective Joe Cashin.
