Book Description

Adam Goodfellow and Nicole Golding run a stable in the Cotswolds and specialise in curing problem horses. It's never an easy task, and often requires changing the habits of the owner as much as the horse. The pair have travelled a long way to get where they are today - but they've been united by a common passion.

After a chance meeting with Monty Roberts, they gave up everything to live out their dreams and show that it's possible for ordinary people to become 'horse whisperers'. Their world is extraordinary, particularly through their unusual methods of teaching, and as you meet the cast of characters, both animals and humans, that surround them, you'll find it impossible not to be won over by their life.

5.0 out of 5 stars My review on Whispering Back 31 Oct. 2004
By A Customer
I bought this book when i went to see Monty Roberts live at South-View Equestrian Centre and I am really pleased that i did as it is my favorite book on the shelf(and i do own a lot!!). This book makes you cry, laugh and smile and gives every rider and non-rider hope and inspiration. I love Sensi and Karma and all the other horses in the book but cry at some points (don't worry,i won't give it away!), and laugh my head off at the next, as it reminds me of the horses i have at home. It is amazing how people like Adam and Nicole spend their lives with horses curing them of fears and problems, but, in a sensible way, not causing anymore pain and hurt on them. When i am older i would love to be able to work with horses to such an extent that they do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Any horse lover should buy this book! 25 Sept. 2005
This book is truly inspiring. This revolutionary style of horsemanship should be odopted by everyone who owns a horse. This is a book I did not want to put down and left me wanting to read more about Nicole and Adams experiences with the horses that have come into there care. This book certainly left it's mark and I will always remember Joe!

5.0 out of 5 stars An insight into what can be achieved 31 Jan. 2010
A fascinating, and highly personal, account of what can be achieved using the "intelligent horsemanship" approach developed by Monty Roberts and Kelly Marks. Gives you an insight into the difference this has made to horsemanship in the UK as well as providing an entertaining accompanyment to the more "textbook" accounts.

I also found this a great story of how two people really threw themsleves into a real alternative lifestyle, doing what they wanted and achieving a great deal starting from scratch.

If you love horses you will love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for horse lovers 2 May 2008
I got this book as I am a fan of Monty Roberts and natural horsemanship. Nicole and Adam take you through their history with horses and how they now work with Monty Roberts and Kelly Marks on Join-Up and natural horsemanship. Any horse lover will really love this book, I got through it in 2 weeks and couldn't put it down!

5.0 out of 5 stars An interesting and inspiring read 31 Jan. 2010
I bought this book when it first came out having had Nicole come and work with myself and my horse Mai who was extremely challenging as a youngster. Nicole helped us gain the tools we needed for success and this type of work is also reflected in her and Adams book.
The book tells the story of Adam and Nicoles journey to 'intelligent horsemanship' and the stories of how they learnt from and helped the horses they met along the way. It isn't a 'Here's how' book although it does go into some detail about how they worked with the horses they meet along the way. Its an inspiring read and I am happy to recommend it (and Nicole and Adam) to anyone truely interested in working with horses.

5.0 out of 5 stars insperational and encouraging 31 Jan. 2010
I really enjoyed reading this book and it gave me a lot of hope that there are people out there putting so much time and love into horses that are deemed impossible.
I took my own horse to them and did a 5 day course which was wonderful and gave me a stronger bond with my horse.
Nicole and Adam really 'walk their talk'.
If you want an uplifting, informative and easy read get this book you will love it.

3.0 out of 5 stars it's ok 17 Feb. 2010
For me there was just too much hero worship in this book, I'm afraid it got on my nerves, if it hadn't been for that, I'm sure I would have found it more enjoyable.

I like the way the couple have written alternate chapters, I thought it worked quite well. Perhaps the book is just a little dated now.

I don't doubt that they are very good horse trainers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite simply common sense! 1 Feb. 2010
I had read this book, and like many laughed, cried and really related to the characters and situations within it. I thought my horse needed help and after writing yet another e-mail and hitting the delete button thought what the hell and pressed send. I never expected a reply, it was a cry for help from me for my horse and why would these two authors really care about my problem? To my amazement Adam replied! I sat up most the night reading and re-reading the e-mails we exchanged, i instantly felt that there was hope. I had no idea if i was doing the right thing or that it was me who needed the help, but the alternative was to sell my horse as we were no longer welcome! Barney and i travelled to Moor Wood with my non horsey husband, we unloaded Barney who pranced like a mad thing around the court yard with me trying to calm my nerves stroking Scrabble!(their dog)I was unaware Adam had already joined my husband so when John called me, im not sure if i was more nervous about Barney still prancing around or meeting the man on the end of my e-mails!
I can only say that i was to embark on a journey that not only saved Barney from who knows what but also a journey of self discovery, as like so many horse owners its us who have the problems, our horses are just being horses! Adam and Nicole have a common sense approach to horsemanship, they look at the horse as an individual, listen to the horse then communicate with it in "horse talk" not human talk. Basic principles are taught which are so far removed some times from what we are traditionally taught, but they work and work well. My hellish horse is now a very well adjusted and happy horse who has three pals one of which is an Exmoor straight from the moor with no handling!
