Great Microwave, different from what you are used to but one you get a handle on how it works, it is great.

Likes, Crisp function and especially the oven.

Dislikes, Mains cable is far too short. If it has to plug in on the left of the cooker then it barely passes the oven. Come on Whirlepool, stop being so tight.

Update..........

Bought this microwave to replace one from Panasonic, four years old and died, previous cheepo Dixons one lasted almost 20 years.

The way this unit works is quite different from the Panasonic and I would say has ironed out some of the Panasonic failings.

Comparison: Preheat Oven

Panasonic - Once preheated if you press the wrong button after it has reached the temperature you have to put it back through the pre-heat cycle again.

Whirlpool - Once preheated, like a conventional oven, you can do what you like, but as soon as you want to start the oven all you need to do is press the forced air button and away you go. Much more forgiving.

Comparison: Oven Cooking

Panasonic - The 775s had an unusual feature which was a static oven baking tray that slid into runners two thirds up the inside, great for oven cooking, they don't seem to do it anymore.

Whirlpool - Doesn't have the oven tray as the Panasonic but has a nifty button to stop the turntable revolving, which pretty much does the same thing.

Comparison: Microwave Oven

Panasonic - Has some better pre-programmes such as propper baked potatoes, not quite as good on the Whirlpool

Whirlpool - Has crisper function which is great for Pizza, Baked Potatoes or anything you want a crispy top to.

All in all we are really impressed with this unit and from Amazon, is cheaper than the Panasonic equivalent.

Still miffed about the short power lead though.

Having spent a long time weighing up which oven to buy after our microwave gave up I settled on this Whirlpool model. The reviews were excellent and it had all the features and functions that I wanted. We've recently moved house and the gas oven is a bit smaller than what we're used to and so the full combination features on this model looked perfect.

Delivery was excellent, the oven was with me two days after ordering, and it was packaged very well.

I opened the box, set it up without any hassle and used it. Excellent! What could be better. The microwave function worked perfectly.

The next day I used the crisp function to cook some frozen bacon and cheese grills. Again, brilliant! In fact the grills tasted better than ever. Then I steamed some peas to go with the grills. Pop! The oven tripped the main fuse board. I reset the fuse and turned the oven on again but it was dead. Kerput. Nothing.

So I organised a return and replacement product. The service couldn't have been surpassed. Can't fault Amazon one bit. I ordered the replacement last Saturday and it arrived early on Monday, again well packaged.

I set the oven up and thought that I'd better check that it worked. So I set it to pre-heat. CRUNCH! Damaged fan. It was turning round and catching on something inside the back of the oven. I was gutted. This was the second faulty Whirlpool oven I had in the house - the first hadn't been collected yet.

So I've arranged a return for the second one and a refund this time. Either there's a bad batch, or I've just been very unlucky.

I would love to have heartily recommended this product. On paper it's excellent. According to the other reviews it steps up to the mark, cuts the mustard and makes the grade. However my experience has been different. I'm afraid that I wouldn't buy another one and I'm not sure I'd mail order a microwave oven again. In fact I'm off to Pearson's in Enfield later this week to see what I can bring home in the car boot.

Sorry Whirlpool. Sorry Amazon.

I have been thinking about buying a combination microwave for some time and I am very pleased with this purchase. I think I have used all the programs on offer now and will give a brief resumé of them. I agree with a lot of other people that the instructions and recipe book are woeful, I cannot understand why Whirlpool have not addressed this problem as so many people have complained about it. If you are buying this machine and don't have a good idea of how a combination microwave works I would suggest that you buy a good reference book. The Basic Basics Combination and Microwave handbook by Carol Bowen is excellent, not a recipe book as such, but gives a very good guide to timings and settings.

CLOCK: I like the fact the you don't have to display the time as I have several items in my kitchen that already do that!
MICROWAVE: Fine seems same as my old one.

JET START: Fine handy for reheating drinks.

MANUAL DEFROST: O.K. if you are used to using a micro to defrost.

GRILL: Excellent, quick to heat, have used for grilling chops and browning dishes.

GRILL COMBI: Excellent, not sure about all the timings and settings in instructions as not used if for all they suggest.

CRISP: Excellent, have cooked bacon, small chunks of potatoes (not frozen), onions and peppers.

FORCED AIR(CONVENTIONAL FAN OVEN); Excellent bakes great cakes and bread, better than my Bosch oven!

FORCED AIR COMBI: Excellent, although I have not been brave enough to try this for cakes or bread as no timings are suggested!! I have used for roasting and it is v good.

JET PRE-HEAT:Excellent, very fast, I would suggest using for baking.

JET MENU CRISP: Sorry cannot comment as I have not used this function for frozen dishes(don't confuse with CRISP programme)

JET AIR: Haven't used this function as always forget to weigh cake mix before putting into cake tin, also I am not sure if you can use metal or foil dishes for this function, I have emailed Whirlpool twice and asked the question but have had no reply. I guess I could just try it and if it 'arcs' take it out!

JET DEFROST: Very poor and disappointing, hence 4 stars, I have found that the timings are way out and far too short, e.g. 1 min 26 secs to defrost 400g of chicken. I don't think so! even allowing for standing time, usually manually defrost by micro. I would be interested to hear from other people if they have had the same problem as I wonder is it a fault in my machine.

STEAM. Nice feature, also find times a little short even though I like my veg crisp.

Hope this has been helpful and not too long winded.

Word of advice, read the book and leaflet and then read again and again, until you really understand it, I am an experienced cook but new to combi/micros and did have to keep referring to it until I got the gist!

It looks fabulous, buy the black.
