I've held off writing this review for several months because I wanted to see how it performed in service - after problems to start with (see later).
As a kitchen appliance it seems to be excellent in all cooking modes. I usually use it just as a microwave and for this it's versatile having a number of power levels and it's really convenient for just heating things up since you just put the food in, close the door and press the start button repeatedly - this automatically selects max power and increments 30 seconds for each push of the start button. No need to go into the settings at all! I usually use the low grill rack to raise the food off the turntable - seems to cook more evenly.
As a grille it cooks very evenly, though since the turntable rotates the food under the rearward grille section it takes longer than you might think. Very good for things like cheese on toast since you can watch it and get it just right.
It works well as a convection oven - I made home-made "sun dried tomatoes" successfully at the lowest setting, though admit I haven't used it much otherwise to actually cook things since I have a conventional oven too. And it's quite noisy in that mode.
There are several combinations - I've used the "gratin" setting successfully several times.
It's also very accurate at cooking frozen foods - pasta in particular - after you've fed the weight in. And it's quicker than the food maker's instructions on the packet suggest too.
Even the "kitchen timer" function is useful.
Now why in that case have I not given it five stars? Because of Amazon's appalling customer service!
It arrived without any paperwork - no instructions whatsoever never mind recipe info. Amazon was totally unconcerned and referred me to Whirlpool. They initially didn't help either. I was REALLY tempted to return it because of that. However I'd purchased it at a VERY low price - much lower than it's presently on offer at. To crown it all when I unpacked it fully and put it on the worktop I found the side was dented. By then I'd already downloaded the instructions from Whirlpool - which Whirlpool then emailed me; they could have sent me proper paper copies but didn't. I kept it but was really disappointed.
As a consequence I didn't order anything else from Amazon for some time...
