1.0 out of 5 stars Where did everyone go??? 4 Jan 2010
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Whereas the previous books in the Dreamland series have been based at the Dreamland air base this book has virtually nothing to do with the previous eleven books apart from the inclusion of a few characters such as Breanna Stockard and Danny Freah.
After reading the first few dozen pages you realise that it is twelve years since the last Dreamland novel and almost everyone has moved on. This in itself is not surprising as at some point the Dreamland series had to end and stewardship pass back to McLanahan and co but this has been entirely glossed over. What happened to the other characters such as Colonel Bastian, Darren Mace, etc?
As the other review states, the plot took about 200 pages to get going and the ending was a foregone conclusion. Perhaps this should have been published under a new series name to differentiate it from the Dreamland series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dale Brown's Whiplash 10 Aug 2010
Format:Mass Market Paperback
A completely different style and tone for the Dreamland series (and Dale Brown in general), Dreamland: Whiplash shifts the series from focusing on aviation and military action in the recent past (filling in the gaps of Dale Brown's solo novel series timeline) and centers on CIA and covert action in the near future. Most of the old characters are dropped and new ones introduced. There's less technical descriptions. The vast majority of the action is on the ground, in Iran and central Africa, but since there's already dozens of Dale Brown books with airplanes and big battle scenes, who cares? It's a great thriller, realisitic and believable. Hopefully the series will continue to follow this style, because it was better than any Vince Flynn or Brad Thor books. I even liked it better than the previous Dreamland books, and it's too bad this book wasn't given a hardcover release.

1.0 out of 5 stars binding error-publishers fault! 12 Mar 2010
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Would've been a reasonable thriller but for the fact that 3/4's of the way through the book a huge chunk was missing, instead we had a repeat of around 20- 30 pages from the beginning of the book. most disappointing as I assume the plot and conclusion to the plot occured within those missing pages. What irritates most is that these are supposed to have been checked before certifying fit for issue. Someone needs their a***es kicked.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dale brown has let me down with Whiplash 23 Dec 2009
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is the most disappointing book from a great author.A weak story line which did not get going for the first 200 pages then stumbled to a foregone conclusion. The technical aeronautical content was almost none existent,it didnot open the envelope never mind push it to usual limits which is Dale browns trade mark.1 bad story out of 11 in the dreamland series is 1 too many i'am afraid!
