Product Description

CD Description

Wherever There Is Light acts as a bridge between No-Man's elegiac 2008 return Schoolyard Ghosts and the forthcoming live concert DVD Mixtaped. The alt-country tinged Death Was California and the atmospheric Counting are two new songs especially written for the EP, while Carolina Skeletons and All The Blue Changes are the first recordings released from No-Man's Autumn 2008 mini-tour. Also containing Grant Wakefied's poetic video for the title track, a powerful preview from the Mixtaped DVD, and striking Carl Glover designed artwork, the enhanced Wherever There Is Light EP is a rare and beautiful thing from the band Uncut memorably described as 'Britain's most underrated sorrowful sonic architects'. Tracks: (Audio) Wherever There Is Light / Death Was California / Counting / Carolina Skeletons (Live) / All the Blue Changes (Live) / Visual: Wherever There Is Light (Grant Wakefield video) / All The Blue Changes (Live at the Bush Hall)

Great variety for the price 1 May 2010

When I reviewed Schoolyard Ghosts by No-Man, I took off some points because I felt that the CD lost some steam towards the end. Otherwise, I felt the songwriting itself and at least 4 of the songs were among the best they ever did.

This EP continues that trend by putting on one of those tracks; 'Wherever There is Light' and 2 new songs: 'Counting' and 'Death Was California' - which could be their best track ever. These 2 new songs are not B-sides. They were newly recorded for this release and the quality shows.

There are 2 tracks from the live Mixtaped release (Carolina Skeletons and All the Blue Changes). There are also 2 videos (All the Blue Changes from the concert and a newly commissioned video for Wherever There Is Light - beautiful).

Some redundancy with the Mixtaped DVD but no deduction in points because of the quality of the new songs and the price point.
