If you check the cover of the book you might think you are getting a lighthearted chick lit romance. Well you would be wrong, the synopsis is very cleverly worded IMO. it does not tell you much at all except that a woman is going back home. Then realising that home is where the heart is. Yeah right.
For the most part this story is retrospective. Reece has not been home for twenty years, but a call from a long lost friend informing Reece of her grandmothers death, prompts her return. When Reece was born she was given by her mother to her sister to raise, as she was unmarried with no way of caring for a baby. She might as well just put her in a cage with a pack of rabid dogs. Reece's adoptive parents were trapped in an unhappy marriage, her two brothers who resented her presence made her life hell. Her grandmother whose nickname was "malice" was a bitter twisted shell of a woman. Reece had been married to a wonderful man named Taylor but she had managed to ruin that, it was always doomed she just never realised until it was over. Some of the incidents that are related in this story from Reece's past are at best depressing at worst harrowing. It isn't that this is a badly written book, it's not. But it's here masquerading as a romance, when it's not there is not one ounce of romance in this at all. To say that this is not my cup of tea might be understating things. Maybe other readers might appreciate this, I just could not.

This book makes you think, for Reece the only way she was ever going to get on with her life was to face the past. This was never going to be easy for her,you feel for her every step of the way. The death of her Granma brings to the surface all her fears, sometimes in life you have got to stop running. this book is a very good read

Hang in there 24 Feb 2012

I had a hard time getting into this story, but once I did I was glad I stuck with it. Although it bounced around a bit, the journey felt real, as if we were seeing the past at the same time as Reese. The ending was a little too "happy" compared to the realistic journey that led up to it, but overall it was a good read.

Like a book with structure? Then this isn't for you. 21 Feb 2012

There are very few books that I have a great dislike of, sadly this is one. I understand that it was "free" and that beggars can't be choosers, but this was an ebook that I will not be reading again. There's absolutely no structure and literally no plot development. You can't tell whether it's current day or if the protagonist is having flashbacks. Half the time you don't even know why you are reading the things you are. Furthermore, the author spends way too much time lamenting on and on about the protagonist's messed up family, that we never actually here anything about the main character herself. After reading it, I still have no idea of what actually was happening in the story. There are many more things I can say but to be concise, I'll sum it up. Pass on this ebook...
