More About the Author

Julie Corbin is Scottish and grew up just outside Edinburgh. She has three (almost) grown-up sons and lives in Sussex where she combines writing psychological thrillers with running the medical centre in a boarding school.

Her fourth novel, Now That You're Gone, will be published in Kindle on June 5, 2014. The novel introduces Isla McTeer who lives on the south side of Edinburgh, at the foot of the Pentland Hills. 5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, furious and breathless!! 20 Aug 2011
By Jackie
Format:Kindle Edition
I must start with a warning, do not on any account start reading this book unless you have a few hours free. You immediately find yourself in the middle of a dramatic situation and the pace never halts, not for a minute, and it is impossible to stop reading. I made the mistake of starting this book during the wee small hours when I was unable to sleep - mistake, I got no sleep!

Claire's young daughter is having a birthday party and appears to go missing. While Claire is concerned, her husband Jules overreacts, and she sees in his eyes that he is desperately worried. Bea turns up safely, but in that time, Claire knows there is something major going on with her husband, something she has no idea about to have made him react the way he did. Jules is off on business for a couple of days immediately after the incident, so Claire is unable to talk to him about it.

Jules is a lawyer and is currently working on the prosecution of a very bad man, a vicious man he has been trying to get behind bars for 20 years, Claire, used to be a lawyer before she decided to become a stay at home mum and move to Brighton. All her skills in investigation come to the fore when she decides to try to discover what is going on, and what she finds frightens her to her core. Her family is in danger and she will not sit by relying on others to deal with their situation.

This is fast, frightening and exciting. I really enjoyed the book and I was left breathless by the end, I felt I had been on such a journey with this family. How in one day a seemingly quiet ordinary family could suddenly be in danger of being torn apart, how every person in their lives has to be considered suspect until proven otherwise.

This is the 2nd novel by Julie Corbin, I enjoyed her first one, and I shall certainly be waiting impatiently for her third. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chilling! 13 Sep 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
An absolutely brilliant read! The story is totally gripping from start to finish and the research that Julie Corbin has undertaken with the attention to fine detail have you almost believing this was a personal journey for her. Exceptionally well produced with a terrific storyline linked with compassion about a mother who would go to the end of the earth for her family. The best novel I have read in years!

1.0 out of 5 stars Why all the positive reviews? 12 Dec 2011
By amy
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this on my kindle because of the positive reviews. I feel very badly let down. Here are some of the reasons why: A woman finds out her family is under threat because she goes into her husbands emails, where a very middle class well spoken terrorist threatens the family in ridiculous middle class language. Honestly when I read the emails sent I laughed at how scooby doo it was. Instead of feeling terror, she realises the cop who deals with the case is an ex and puts her best top on, gels her hair and flirts with him and asks him about his wife! terrorists dont email, all emails are traceable, all of them. ALL of them. When she tells the cop that she thinks the sender might be a woman because of aforementioned emails, he (the top policeman) says he'll go back and tell the profilers. WTF? did they not consider it might be either sex? She still goes and picks up her cook and gives her a lift for crying out loud. In short, where's the suspense and terror? How unrealistic is it? Reviewers, please beware, believing this is 5 stars will leave yuo a fiver down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivated right from the start 15 Nov 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It can be difficult getting into a new book after reading one that is really good. I had just finished Before I go to Sleep, which was excellent. This book however delivered for me. It pulled me in from the very start and it was quite a compulsive read, I did find myself reading late into the night unable to put it down. The story is about a family of lawyers whose child is threatened when they are working on a sensitive case. I can imagine this can happen in cases where witnesses are threatened. The middle of the book did have parts that I wanted to skip through, but only because I wanted to know what was going to happen in the end! I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Predictable 11 Mar 2012
By Ann09
I am an avid thriller reader, but this was so disappointing. The main character was so weak and selfish. The fact that she had had an affair with an ex colleague really meant nothing to the plot. How many times can the author tell us how beautiful is the love between mother and daughter Bea.... every chapter several times. What connection does the nursey teacher bring to the book? Bought this on Amazon recommedation - disappointed

1.0 out of 5 stars A very disappointing read 28 Oct 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I have to say I am surprised by the number of 5 star reviews for where the truth lies I thought it was a below average read. I would hardly call it a thriller the story was slow and as others have mentioned most of the scenes are set in the home. Also there are characters in the story that do not really need to be there eg the teacher and also the main characters sister, they just help to pad out a lack lustre "thriller". The plot line had all the makings of a good story but characters that were poorly portrayed, unbelievable plot lines made this book hard going. I find it hard to believe where the truth lies received so many positive reviews I love a good thriller but feel this book does not fit into this genre. At one point I nearly gave up on it, but persevered thinking it may gain momentum unfortunately it never did! A very disappointing " overhyped" read for me I'm afraid.
