The game of Where the Wild Things Are is based on the film of the same name, which in turn is based on the children's book of the same name. I haven't seen the film or read the book so I am not sure how faithful the game's story is to those media but it was mildly engaging for me. The confusion for me lies with the story/film/book being aimed squarely at pre-teens, but the game has a PEGI rating of 12+, presumably because as a player you are hitting things with a stick and throwing stones to progress through the game, and the Wild Things will eat you if provoked.
The game is a standard kids movie tie-in. 3rd person platformer come action/adventure game with a few simple puzzles to solve and enemies to kill. If you are an older gamer it is possible to breeze through the main story on the hardest difficulty in a matter of hours. There are a ton of collectibles along the way but the handy "Replay Chapter" function allows you to go back and pick up the few you missed without having to play through the whole thing again.
There are a few flaws; the controls can sometimes be a little unresponsive and the usual problem in 3D platformers of not being entirely sure where you are going to land when you jump is present and correct. There are also sections that are very dully lit, verging on darkness, with black enemies to fight making you unsure of what is going on.
On the plus side the game is well animated with some nice water effects, and there are some well constructed set piece sections.
Overall it's not too bad but not the best game I've ever played.
