Amazon.co.uk Review

In this prize-winning tale, a young Australian boy's father takes him by boat to a tropical rainforest. The boy explores, musing about the nature of the forest, its history and future until it's time to go eat the fish his father has caught and cooked.

Stunningly illustrated with Baker's gorgeously colourful and textured collages, and featuring a rainforest modelled on a real wilderness in North Queensland, Where the Forest Meets the Sea is sure to stimulate thought and debate, and encourage even the youngest reader to develop an interest in the environment. Particularly good for the classroom. (Ages 4 to 8)--Lisa Gee

A Big Book edition is also available. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Product Description

When a young boy visits a tropical rain forest, he pretends it is a long time ago and that extinct and rare animals live in the forest, and aboriginal children play there. But how much longer will the rainforest remain, he wonders? --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

I and the children in my class (7 year-olds) found this book stimulating and stunningly presented. The children were convinced that the pictures were photographs, and had great fun spotting the "ghosts". The book led to lots of discussion of environments throughout the world, and could be used as a starting point for artwork.

Big Book even better 14 April 2008
Format:Paperback
I got the Big Book of this title, for use in schools. However it is just for 2 little brothers. They love it. They are fascinated and intrigued by all the detail and can look at it for hours. Parents also love it. In fact, it's a real eye catcher of a book with beautiful vibrant colours. I think I agree with another reviewer who says that the big book ought to have teacher's notes though. However, this did not spoil my enjoyment of it.
I do highly recommend all books by this artist.

This is a great resource for geography at primary school. The superimposed pictures of hotels over the rainforest are a great discussion point on human effect
