4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable rom com 28 Oct 2010
By jlf
I really don't know why this film is getting such bad reviews, it is after all a rom com, not a documentary about Rome!

For people who like this kind of film, I found it to be as good as many other films in this genre. The story is different to other recent romantic comedies, and I thought it was very funny in parts.
The lead actors, Josh Duhamel and Kristen Bell work perfectly together. The four men in love with Beth are also excellent.

If you're thinking of buying this film then I would advise you to give it a go... if like me you enjoy watching rom coms. Ignore the bad reviews, it doesn't deserve them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastically Funny 30 May 2011
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I recently saw this film on Sky Movies not expecting to like it but how wrong I was, I liked it that much that I instantly purchased the DVD the moment the credits were rolling. The film is full of laughter and never has a dull moment, with a certain charm I find both endearing and exceedingly sweet. It's a ROM-COM you can watch again and again and never get tired of laughing at all the outragously funny parts. This is certainly a film I will be watching alot.

Kristen Bell (Heroes, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) and Josh Duhamel (Transformers, Las Vegas) are decent actors and convincing in their roles in what is a film with a nice enough concept: a workaholic girl (Bell) in Rome for her sister's wedding picks coins out of a wishing well that represent the love wishes of the coin depositors and hence their love is transferred to her. They follow her back to the US, but is one of her suitors (Duhamel) transfixed because of the coins or because of a genuine love?

It's very predictable rom-com fare, and by no means a classic, but completely inoffensive, with a novel enough spin on the tried and tested cliches to keep it interesting and fun. There are better actors making better comedies, but this isn't the sort of film you'll watch and wish you had the 90 minutes back.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable 30 July 2013

A rather entertaining chick flick, but I liked it nevertheless.
Characters well played and even the big names didn't overwhelm with their characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good feel-good film 14 Sep 2011
By BeRo
I found this film to be a very good romantic film with a bit of comedy, akin to the likes of Sleepless in Seattle.

From the Back Cover: "Bring home the must-own romantic comedy of the year, filled with widely funny twists and turns! When Beth, an unlucky-in-love New York curator (Kristen Bell), takes a whirlwind trip to Rome for her sister's wedding, an unexpected crush takes her by surprise. QUickly let down, she defiantly plucks coins from the Fontana de Amore, magically igniting the passions of some comically unsuitable suitors. As a charming reporter (Josh Duhamel) becomes zealously smitten, Beth is sceptical that he's the real deal. Don't miss hilarious performances from an all-star cast you'll want to see again and again."

It should be noted that the DVD itself has the standard annoying adverts of The Last Song and A Christmas Carol at the beginning (why do DVD makers do that, it's just so annoying, feel free to have it as Extras on the disk, but not before the feature!), as well as a Sneak Peak menu with trailers for Lost (The Final Season) and a Blu-Ray advert. The Bonus Features contain Kerplunk! Bloopers From Rome, three Deleted Scenes (Setting the Record Straight, The Saddest Thing and Suitors Make A Scene) and two Music Videos (Starstrukk by 3OH!3 featuring Katy Perry, and

4.0 out of 5 stars A good film
The film is good, watchable, but most of the acting was in New York, not in Rome.
I was expecting to see more from Italy and more Italian characters.
