What are the odds that the prequel would be even better than the original work?! I LOVED reading about Alex and Valerie's early years. There was so much passion, angst, jealousy, insecurity and pride! And it felt real in the sense that these two characters behaved like their age, in essence, they were immature. But you could never doubt how in love they were. I hate reading about college aged people who speak and act like they're 40, it's just not authentic. Alex and Valerie are two young people who don't yet have a handle on their emotions and have trouble fully trusting eachother, and when two fiery personalities collide there's bound to be major fireworks. Valerie is such a great heroine, spunky and strong, yet knowing Alex is her only weakness and she's relatable b/c so many young women have been in her shoes. Alex is my favorite Moreno brother and he is such a perfect mix of sweet and alpha. I felt bad for all the stresses and issues he was dealing with and I felt equally bad for Valerie always getting the short end of the stick from him, it was well written and easy to see that there isn't always a good guy and a bad guy but sometimes the timing just isn't right or we have to grow up a little to be able to handle a mature relationship. I highly recommend When You Were Mine, Reyes delivers again.
