An evocative tale based on the book by Michael Morpurgo. Part fairy tale, part study of life during very hard times, When The Whales Came is a story that holds your attention throughout. A fine film adaptation and a really good read for all ages.

A brilliant and sensitive portrayal of life in the Isles of Scilly just at the time of the First World war. A great cast and the children have been very well directed. The music is atmospheric and hauntingly beautiful to match this special place. This is a proper story written by someone who knows his craft, understands children and loves the islands. Warning:
It is regrettable that the trailers of other films that preface the video are utterly unsuitable for children.

shame its not on dvd 1 July 2007
Format:VHS Tape
A great film that i watched many times as a child. Unfortunately it has not been released on dvd. I find this strange as Helen Mirren plays a main role in this fantastic film.
