Product Description

Home is wherever the heart leads....

The ties that bind us--to our families, to our pasts--are at the heart of this deeply engrossing story.

Venus Arinelli saw her future as a concert pianist shattered when her father's life ended in disgrace.  Now Venus plays in cocktail lounges, sporting her survival skills like a suit of armor.  When a stranger emerges from her parents' long-ago past with an offer too good to refuse, Venus' suspicions flare up.

But Gib Cameron has a special mission.  He represents the Camerons of Tennessee--a family as rooted in American history and Southern soil as Venus' is notorious and fly-by-night.  Yet the Camerons, survivors of tragedy, need Venus for reasons that have to do with honor and loyalty and an almost mystical bond to their shared past.  And Gib, as hard-eyed a skeptic as Venus herself, has to persuade her to come to their mountain home.

Humor, sexiness, pathos, and surprises are all part of Deborah Smith's unique storytelling magic.  When Venus Fell will entrance readers with its tale of Venus's reluctant journey to Tennessee, where two well-guarded hearts, afraid to trust again, will find they've come home.

From the Author

a romantic and unique southern family drama
I wrote When Venus Fell after I fell in love with the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Fascinated by the beauty of those ancient Appalachians and also the Scottish heritage of the earliest settlers, I created the Camerons, a proud Scottish dynasty, struggling to save their mountain home. I've always enjoyed writing about the diversity of southerners, and so I created Venus Arinelli, a good southern girl whose heritage includes an Asian-American father. From their poignant history to their turbulent relationship as adults, Venus Arinelli and Gib Cameron proved to be one of my most exciting stories to write. I hope the readers enjoy it. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This was the first book I read by Deborah Smith, and I was so impressed! Venus was the perfect main character, because she was so wonderfully different. The entire cast of characters were amazing, and I loved the beautiful setting. If you have not read anything by Smith, I strongly recommend this book. It is so wonderful!!! You will not be able to put it down!!! Good Job, Deborah!!!

This is the first story by Deborah Smith that I have read, and at first the first person point of view took getting used to, but I quickly got involved and interested in the story. The characters in the book are well-developed and the remembrances of the past are easily woven into the story in such a way that they don't interfere with keeping the present-day story on track. It is also a great love story between Venus and Gib, as well as a great read with the very interesting Arinelli sisters and even more interesting characters in the Cameron family. Definitely an enjoyable reading/romance adventure.

I was disappointed by both the over blown style of writing and the plot

I really couldn't call this book a romance because it dealt more with families and the complex connection between kin than any two people and their developing relationship. Read more
