5.0 out of 5 stars Great bed time read! 15 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Decided to down load this book after reading the review for the second book in the big issue. I have read several Zombie books in the last few years and they tend to fall into two groups. First horror with lots of blood and gut or end of the world depressing love stories.
I have been very pleased to find that Luke did not fall into either of these traps, its a story about normal people in unusual situations. The characters are all normal people with faults, weaknesses and strengths.
There is a policeman who plays a major part in the story and he is no super hero.
So all round this is a great story and I cannot wait to start the second installment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mind Eating Awesomeness! 1 July 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
WOW: What else can I say??? Zombies and private security... Not only is that creative, but reader worthy! This book has literally eaten me alive with its awesomeness! Such dynamic twists along with great thought taken into creating the characters that when you're finished with the first you might go into withdrawals until you get the next in the series! Readers beware! You might want to buy the whole lot if it's already out when you read this!

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't Wait To Read The Sequel!! 11 Feb 2013
By Ursula K. Raphael TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
The bad: sloppy editing...mainly issues with random POV switches, and random location switches. It's a shame the editing wasn't better because I think it's going to be a deal-breaker for some readers, which would be a real shame if they chose not to finish this story.

Steve and Marcus are two brothers in two different countries when a flu virus ravages the world's population. One brother tries to hold up in his apartment with his daughter, until it becomes apparent that there is more to this virus than just a fatal illness, and he tries to survive with others (including his brother's family) at a safari park. The other brother, a marine now working with a private security team, realizes that he will have to journey through several hostile countries to get back to his family.

At first, I was more interested in the security team's situation, but when the two storylines begin to merge together, I was sitting on the edge of my seat, racing through pages, wondering if the brothers would ever manage to be reunited.

Despite the editing issues (which I sincerely hope will NOT happen again), I am looking forward to reading the sequel. Somehow Luke Duffy managed to take the typical zombie survival story and turn it into an action-packed family drama overflowing with all kinds of horror - not just the undead threat.

I strongly urge readers to make an effort to finish reading this book...I think you will find the ending very rewarding!

Not your usual standard zombie gore fest. A story of two brothers leading their own groups to survival. A great set of believable characters who you are really rooting for and a very well written book. I would highly recommend this book

Wow what a read, not my normal genre of read, but it was definitely worthwhile. I bought it first as an ebook and enjoyed it so much I wanted it in my collection so I purchased it in hard copy. It kept me on the edge of my seat, a real page turner. Good well formed characters, displays all the fears and emotions of people under stress and scared out of their wits and then transfers these to the reader, made me want to sleep with the light on and a pickaxe handle under the bed. Fantastic first novel by the author, with obviously more to come, I for one cannot wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Luke Duffy Scores 5 Starts for this Trilogy 18 July 2014
By Micki B
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a three-book series. I loved all three of them and hated when the last one ended. The characters are wonderful and you really care for most of them, especially the zombie Andy. I would highly recommend the whole set if you love zombie stories. I've read quite a few, and these are the only ones I've ever rated 5 stars. Kudos to Luke Duffy. It can't be easy writing zombie books and trying to come up with something even remotely engaging. Oh, and the word 'zombie' never appeared once in any of his books, but you knew who they were.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gore Galore 29 Sep 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Absolutely fantastic !!!
I bought this book the day it was published on Kindle and haven't been able to put it down since. I can honestly say that it is one of the best books I have ever read and the best bit is, there is more to come. The book is a mixture of action, sci-fi horror and human emotions. It has humor and blood curdling gore. The scariest part about the book is that it is too believable.
Without giving away the end of the book, the best thing to say is that it doesn't end. It left me wanting to scream as I was so engrossed in the plot, action and characters. I can only hope that the author is a very quick writer and can bring us the next episode in the existence of the brilliant characters.
I loved the book and wish I could translate into words on paper as well as the author 'Luke Duffy' does.
I can't wait to read more from this author.

PURE, DEAD, BRILLIANT !!!!!

The book is so badly written that I had to put it down after the first three chapters. Many sentences start with an 'and', 'but' or a 'he'; as if it were written by a child. Read more
