When Tom's new baby sister comes home, he's less than certain what it means for him, especially when a flood of teddy bears leaves no room for him on the sofa. However, Tom is reassured when the whole family decide to take turns in looking after both teddy bears and baby.
We read this wonderful book repeatedly with our son while we were expecting his little sister and it has become our favorite gift for older siblings when a new baby arrives. It tackles with great subtlety the inevitable worries of an only child who suddenly finds he has a rival at the centre of his parents' world. Penny Dale's warm illustrations beautifully complement Martin Waddell's text, making a package which parents and children can enjoy together over and over again.

`When the new baby comes to Tom's house, the Teddy Bears start coming too...........so many bears, in fact, that Tom soon worries there's no room for him!'

Tom looked at the bears, Alice Bear, Ozzie Bear, Sam Bear and Huggy, Rockwell and Dudley Bear, and Dad's Dodger Bear, all on the couch beside Mum and the baby.
"There's no room for me," Tom said to Mum.
Mum smiled and said, "Come here, Tom, and sit on my knee. You and I can look after the bears. It's Dad's turn to look after the baby."
And that`s what they did.
When the new baby came to Tom`s house, they all took it in turns to look after the bears..

My children are now 12 & 10 respectively and I purchased this book for my son to help prepare him for our new arrival. He loved the book and read it often before and after his sister was born. The beautiful illustrations help to make this an excellent purchase easpecially as Tom was so like my son at the time!!
I have always recommended it to friends and they too have benefited from the story and pictures.
I have just tried to buy the book for an expectant friend and am truly disappointed that it is currently out of print. May it soon be back on the bookshelves for all to enjoy.
