Biography

Since recording their last album and during the course of over two years, the boys had become accustomed to the routines of their everyday lives. With writing and recording paused, Nick, Matt, Jamie and Alex were each able to indulge in their own bespoke approach to enjoying life in their early twenties.
Matt, ever the sophisticat, had settled back into life in Sheffield neatly. Initially, and very… Read more in Amazon's Arctic Monkeys Store

Get It While Its Hot 27 Jan 2006
Format:Audio CD
The Arctic Monkeys wave just continues to build and build and deservedly so. Alex Turner delivers the vocals in all the songs so well. The band are well deserving of this to be their second number one single. It's a great song. It's better than 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' because IBYLGOTD only incorporates the energetic side of The Arctic Monkeys. This song shows how well they can switch between the two with the intro and outro both being calm, minus drums and with no catchy riffs, just plain, brilliant chords allowing the listener to hear and appreciate the lyrics with a greater clarity. And there is an energetic middle to the song as well, giving the listener all that is anted. The lyrics themselves tell a little story about a 'man' who is often seen with 'girls of the night'.

Now this wouldnt be a full review if i did not mention the two b-sides. 'Stickin To The Floor' is very well structured and is such a catchy song with the intro riff, which carries into the verses. It sounds like a demo track, which is when the raw energy of the Arctic Monkeys is captured at its best. '7' the third and final track on here is a good song, not brilliant but good. It starts of OK and continues to be just that, OK. It's clear to see why it didn't make the album it ust doesn't have that panache of the others, but it does have a very nice solo which is not a crazily difficult solo by any stretch of the imagination but is very pleasant on the ear and definately gets a bit of dancing going on. It's a necessary single to have, particularly so that you have 'Stikin to the Floor' in your collection as it's a great track, but unfortunately did not make the album cut.

Great song, great b-sides, great band, great album. It's going to be a great year for the Arctic Monkeys.

Arctic monkeys? 13 May 2006
Format:Audio CD
2nd single to be taken from T'Monkeys debut album. This is CD 1 of a 2CD set. Stickin to the floor and 7 are, essentiallly, great B sides, digipak is nice for completists, featuring the same image from the Beneath the Boardwalk ep

Scummy 15 Nov 2005
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This is an abosolute blinder of a song! On earlier demos it is refered to as 'Scummy'for quite obviously reasons when you hear the lyrics. The lyrics at the start and end are themselves quite fantastic, and the funky twin guitars make the song better. Makes you want to dance.
I think of them as a slightly ska influenced Liberetines with a young Liam Gallagher doing a Mike Skinner impression fronting them, singing a modern Morrisesy's lyrics.
Listen out for other songs, such as 'fake tales of san fransisco' and 'a certain romance'.
