Format:Audio CD
The Freshmen were a harmony laden pop group from Ireland (not to be confused with Americas Four Freshmen)who were formed in the Sixties and recorded some of the best pop music of the era. Unfortunately their success was restricted to home and they were lumped in with the Showband scene as they were primarily a touring band. However, listening to this cd it is obvious that their interpetations of classic American pop songs like Carpet Man, Papa Oom Mow Mow and Lets Dance compare very favourably with the originals. In some cases the Freshmen outdo them. They could write a decent tune themselves and songs like Make It With You and When Summer Comes are accomplished and sit comfortably with the cover versions. Add in some great Peter Lee Stirling tunes, Just To See You Smile and Mr. Beverly`s Heavy Days, not to mention their unique version of the Beatles Yesterday and you have a wonderful collection of their entire Pye output.
