Product Description

Product Description

A workbook to help children work out feelings about a traumatic event. Traumatic events in the lives of their families, friends or community leave children feeling confused, insecure and frightened. Recreating the event on paper reduces the child's terror and creates feelings of empowerment. Drawing puts the child in charge, providing the opportunity for exploring feelings. With the help of this book, nightmares and post-traumatic stress symptoms can be relieved.

This like the rest of the range of books by Marge Heegard is great. It has a great variety of ideas for children and adults to work through the difficult time of grieving. By following the activites in the book it empowers children to cope at their own pace and understanding. It encourages children to explore their feelings- negative and postive ones- in a safe secure way through drawings , colouring and writing. Their are numerous activites in the book and its adaptable in that it can be followed as a book or pages used seperately and appeals to a wide age group. The veratility of the book in not only the way it is organised but it can be used multifuctionally by people wanting to assist kids with griefing or for encouraging families to work through their grief together. I think it is especailly good if parents can work through it with their children as together they can both share in their grief, learn and bond in a difficult time ( instead of what sometimes happens that they become distanced from each other ).
I just wish their were more simple books like this to help people to work through their own grief needs. Excellent book that I recommend highily.

Marge has a wonderful way of entering the child's world. This book, just like all her others, is a valuable tool in working with children who have experienced loss. Not only for professionals but also parents who wish to help their own children deal with some significant losses in their lives.
