5.0 out of 5 stars True Cross-over Power., 31 Mar 2001

This review is from: When Reason Sleeps (Audio CD)
"When Reason Sleeps", Haste's second full length, out-right rocks with an intensity and precision like few before it. Its songs are so tightly arranged, so focused and well thought-out. They build and build until you just are tossed aside in their dust. Check out how the song progresses over 3 minutes to the emotive chorus in "Off Parting Sound" or the way they go from a beautiful chorus line in "Confessions..." to the double kick onslaught breakdown a split second later - it's seamless. "Engine", a stand-out for sure, is a rocker with swing to it and a great use of the dual vocalists the band employs. I used to think of Haste as hardcore but now I think of them as true cross-over hard rock. And I can see them on tour with At The Drive-In as much as I could see them out with Slipknot or Kittie. I think they're 10x the band those other bigger artists are, but better sales don't always mean better albums. If you like Boysetsfire, At The Drive-In, Slayer, Snapcase and also have a sweet spot for Radiohead and Coldplay - this is near perfection! Buy it and tell your friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have, 22 Dec 2003

If you are entertained by full-out metal that will keep you guessing and make you rock your arse off at the same time, look no further. Haste is one of those bands that defines the terms creative and substancial. With the combination of highly professional lyrics, powerful singing and screaming, and patternless brutal music, these guys show their talent as extreme as possible in every album they come out with. I have heard their first cd "Pursuit In the Face of Consequence," as well as this one. Out of the two, this one is my personal favorite. Every song on this album is so great you won't want to skip any of them. My favorite song on here is "Confessions of a Lesser Known Saint." It has a hooky chorus with excellent singing, as well as very long scream in the middle of the song given out by the high-pitched vocalist (I forget his name) during one of the most awesome guitar riffs I have ever heard. Every band member in Haste does a great job with whatever it is that they do. The duel vocalists complement each other very well indeed, low-pitched and high-pitched screams galore. The guitarists and bassist churn out some really great heavy riffs. The drummer is simply amazing, I would be delighted to play my drums like that. In short, Haste is a band that no one should ignore, whether you love them or hate them (and if you hate them then you just have poor taste in music, that's all). They have the complexity that bands such as Tool has, and that's definitely not a bad thing in itself, considering Tool is the greatest band in existence. If you have great taste in music like I do, this band will definitely not disappoint you in the slightest degree.
