Book Description

20 Jun 2012 Shadow Keepers 4
Tiberius is a vampire dedicated to protecting his kind—and the secrets of the shadow world. Now, as his quest to become head of the Alliance draws within reach, a shattering new threat puts him to the ultimate test. It’s a nightmare of grim proportions: a dark plot to bring about the mass extermination of human and shadow alike. And it forces Tiberius to turn to the woman he loved and lost, the lover he still desires but doesn’t trust.

Caris was Tiberius’s mate for centuries—until a fateful mission changed her forever. Her tortured secrets drove her into the arms of his rival, but desperation has brought her back. As a horrifying new weapon of mass destruction is about to be unleashed, Tiberius and Caris harness the power of their immortal and passionate love. But will it be enough to battle devastating odds and a ruthless enemy with the ambition to destroy them all?

Don’t miss J. K. Beck’s short story “Shadow Keepers: Midnight” in the back of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second chance 5 Jan 2013
By Gi C.
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
What would you do if you got a second chance with the only person you had ever loved? (And given the fact that Tiberius is an immortal vampire that is a very long time)
What would you do if you got a chance to correct the biggest mistake you've ever made?
And if you were on the other side of this coin? What if you were the person who was betrayed, who's heart got rip from your chest: could you forgive?

This book has by far been my favourite of this series but i think its because we had only seen glimpses of Caris and Tiberius before and to tell you the truth they didn't really come across as the good guys.

This books sets the story straight and if you really want to know how everything started then you should start with the ebook Midnight.

4.0 out of 5 stars When your mate becomes a plague carrier 5 Nov 2012
By Helen Hancox TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is the first book I've read by this author and I appear to have started some way through a series. However the author gave enough background information that I could follow what was going on and the large cast of characters was never overwhelming.

In a world of vampire politics, Tiberius is the big cheese. He's working to become the Chairman of the Alliance (i.e. the President of the vampires) and his mate, Caris, is working alongside him. Except when something goes horribly wrong and she is somehow turned into a werewolf. Unfortunately these vampire/werewolf `hybrids', when they exist, release toxic plague when they turn into werewolves and Tiberius has to banish her to keep vampires and humans safe.

Fast-forward twenty years and Tiberius bumps into Caris when she assassinates a human. Her reasons for this become clear but unfortunately a different vampire was looking for the same man and soon they realise that someone may have another hybrid and may be looking to use her to cause devastation amongst humans. Tiberius and Caris have to work together to locate this hybrid, stop the evil vampire - the whole time being aware that Caris is lethal to vampires around her if she changes.

This story had an interesting premise - that a person could be a weapon of mass destruction - and I enjoyed a lot of the scenes between Tiberius and Caris as they try to work through their history and find themselves unable to relinquish their love. The politics side was less interesting to me, and some of the subplots (such as the Zermatt police force investigating the murder) seemed rather to peter out to nothing, and a few loose ends weren't quite tied up, but that is to be expected in a series.

4.0 out of 5 stars exciting romantic urban fantasy 29 May 2012
By Harriet Klausner - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Caris and Tiberius were lovers for centuries until a mission in the early eighteenth century shattered their relationship and drove her away from her mate to his rival Gunnolf the Weren. He is devastated by her betrayal but remains dedicated to the cause of protecting the shadow world; she becomes bitter at the world and her former lover.

In the present, Tiberius objects to a nasty beast joining the Alliance as Weren Lihter the Therian representative will challenge Tiberius for the leadership. Lihter holds hostage the daughter of Cyrus Reinholt; Tiberius seeks the man in hiding to learn why. However, he arrives too late as Caris kills Cyrus. With little choice, Caris and Tiberius team up to prevent the ruthless Lihter from destroying the Alliance while a Texas hellhound investigator Gabriel Casavetes hunts the killer of Reinholt.

The latest Shadow Keepers romantic urban fantasy (see When Pleasure Rules and When Wicked Craves) is an exciting second chance at love thriller. When Passion Lies is fast-paced from the moment Tiberius confronts Caris with what she just did and never slowing down as the more the pair learns about Lihter's agenda the more diligent they become to prevent it. Although the snappy retorts are overdone making each lead seem too acrimonious, series fans will enjoy this exhilarating entry. Additionally, a bonus "Shadow Keepers novella "Midnight" provides the first chance historical romance when Caris(sa) asks Tiberius to help rescue her brother.

This book was much stronger on action than characterisation - in fact, I felt that I didn't know either of the main characters that well by the end - but hero and heroine were strong, interesting people that made them good to watch.

Overall I enjoyed the book and I am looking forward to reading another in this series that is on my bedside table.

4.0 out of 5 stars When Passion Lies~ 24 Aug 2012
By Coffee Time Romance - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is an engrossing novel with unique characters and an exciting plot. The complex relationship between Tiberius and Caris has me enthralled. I have really disliked Tiberius for much of the novel due to the way he treats Caris while admiring her for reinventing herself and surviving the physical and emotional blows her attack engendered. The plot is an emotional rollercoaster ride with some interesting twists and turns. The author has created an extraordinary world filled with unique characters and given the reader a story full of action, drama, romance and the paranormal.
