This is not really a review, more of a signpost for anyone treading the same path as me.
I bought this CD for "Rivers are for Boats" - a song got a lot of UK airplay back in the late 1970s but, like far too many of Albert's songs, though very familiar, it was never a top 40 UK hit.
Having tracked down the song by fragments of remembered lyrics, I assumed it must have been Albert's version that I used to be so fond of: But the version on this album isn't it. This version sounds rough and to be honest, a little unfinished by comparison with how I remembered the track.
So, more research and at first I thought that the version I remembered - a more polished and poppy version - was by a little known Cantonese artist called Sam Hui. His version seems now to only to be available on YouTube. But it wasn't Sam's version either! But, also on YouTube is a different version by Albert, and THAT is the version I remembered getting all that radio play back in the late 1970s early 1980s. Perhaps there is a single mix of the song, and what's on this CD is the album mix? Anyone know? I can't find another version on CD than the one here.
Having said all the above, this CD contains a lot of tracks that, although new to me, are very listen-able - although 99 miles was always my favourite of Albert's tracks.
