This album features great but obscure R&B artists from the late sixties and early seventies mostly culled from the Scepter, Wand and Dynamo labels. Excellent vocal groups like The Masqueraders(the five cats in the cover photo), who have two great cuts on here,"Let's Face Facts" and "Sweet Lovin' Woman". Charlie Whitehead, who was a talented singer and protege of Jerry "Swamp
Dogg" Williams is also spotlighted twice with the super catchy "How Can I Forget" and "The Story of Mr. Pitiful", which is a sequel song of sorts to Otis Redding's classic and features some of the original's melody and lyrics as well and was produced by Swamp Dogg with Gary U.S Bonds. R&B veteran Lloyd Price has a great version of the country soul tune "Mr. and Mrs. Untrue", with a big, dramatic horn section. Sam Cooke's little known brother LC Cooke is here with a very strong "Let's Do It Over". " It Hurt's So Good", later a big hit for Millie Jackson is done here by Katie Love and The Four Shades Of Black in an earlier, equally good version. If you like Deep Soul style music, this album needs to be in your CD collection.
