For someone who would not call themselves a jazz enthusiast I was knocked out when I first heard this album being played in my local music shop, and bought the cd straight away. Ekdahl has a mesmerising voice, and puts a new spin on some old classics. Her interpretation is unique, though there are one or two slightly unusual pronunciations of words on her delivery of "Cry me a river" which you get used to and even begin to warm to after several hearings. This is her first English album, her earlier discs are performed in Swedish, and have turned platinum in her native land. The Peter Nordahl trio are great musicians in their own right and this really is an album to savour. Given a wider audience Lisa Ekdahl will undoubtedly become a great star.

Nice voice but...,
This review is from: When Did You Leave Heaven/Int. European Version (Audio CD)
I am a big fan of female Jazz Singers but I must qualify this by also saying that I dislike Billie Holiday and Nina Simone whereas, as far as I am concerned Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington have no match.
I was very disappointed with hearing this CD from Lisa Ekdahl. She has a nice voice, but I found the delivery of all of the songs lacking any real depth or character. There are many nice voices out there, but that isn't enough to stand out from the crowd when singing claasic tunes and this is what I found to be the case here. All in all, I found this to be a very ordinary CD and it would take a lot of persuading for me to get another by this artist.

When I first heard this album, it was my first foray into the world of Lisa Ekdahl & I was hooked. I had it in my cd player for months and listened to it daily as if my life depended on it. Lisa has the most amazing voice & the songs here are classics delivered in Lisa's inimitable mellow jazz formula which perfectly suits her subtle voice. This cd evokes memories of hot summers on the Riviera but sounds equally as good in your sitting room over a glass of wine with friends, or even on your own whilst doing the housework.
