Book Description

7 Sep 2001
WHEN I LOVED MYSELF ENOUGH is a collection of wisdom that is startling in its simplicity. By the end of the book the message becomes clear: loving yourself holds the key to loving others and having others love you. By sharing her insights, the author also shows us how to feel the same sense of peace and quiet joy that illuminated her life. This book began as one woman's gift to the world, hand-made by Kim McMillen and handed out to friends. After Kim's death her daughter Alison continued making the books - and word of mouth turned this into an underground bestseller in America. 'No one feels like they're enough. This book teaches you how to feel like you are enough so you can operate from self-reliance and self-love. Thank you for this book, I love it' Mark Hansen, co-author of Chicken Soup for the Soul

5.0 out of 5 stars A Grateful Soul 4 Aug 2004
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
What is offered in this book is priceless. I am not personally interested in books of positive affirmations. What I found in this book reflects the wisdom that is within each of us that knows that we are valuable, that we are good enough, that we are worthy of love. This amazing woman drew a line in the sand, calling a halt to all the small ways in which she had eroded the essence of herself through not loving herself enough. In sharing this she offers each of us a gift that can help us to find the courage to be who we are and love ourselves for that. The question each of us must ask is whether we can receive this gift or not?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book! 4 May 2007
By Andrea
I bought this book as a gift to myself, partly to qualify for the Free Super Saver Delivery on my order!

I read it cover to cover in 20 minutes, and felt a sense of warmth and self-love. I am currently struggling with depression and life-changes, and this little book reminds me to value myself and lift my self-worth!

I now dip into it at least once a day, to give me a lift, or a focus for any questions I have about my life's direction!

I highly recommend this book! Definitely well worth the purchase!!!!!

This book feels wonderful. The expensive paper adds to its indulgent quality. The book has only one sentence to each page in hand writing script. It is full of wonderful ideas of how to treat yourself - how to let yourself know you are loved. It is almost as if a best friend who knows you are feeling down wrote it especially for you. When I feel down I look out this book and read a few pages and it reminds me I'm not such a bad person afer all and that an occassionl treat is definitely in order. I intend to buy many copies of this book and give them to friends when they need to know how much they are loved. Reading this book leaves me glowing inside.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic 25 Feb 2009
By rosie
I keep buying this book and giving it away because I have found it to be a profoundly wonderful tool in encouraging positive affirmation of the soul and the self. When one suffers from issues of low self worth and low self esteem, being told to think positive doesn't work as the thoughts are not there, this book enabled me to begin to think positively about myself and the world.

fantastic. a must buy

5.0 out of 5 stars I step with my own rhythms 22 Oct 2007
I opened the book today to be reminded that loving myself enough was when I stop fearing empty time and quit making plans and allow myself to step to my own rhythm. That couldn't be more perfect for today a reminder to be a human being and experience life not fill it with lots of things to do!

This is a christmas present favourite for me although last year when I gave a friend her second copy I realised perhaps it was time to move onto another christmas book.

Please do not make the mistake I made of taking the 5* reviews on trust. Use the Look Inside feature to see what a frightful load of old rubbish this volume contains before you consider buying a copy.

From my scan of the description and the other reviews, I imagined this to be a work of continuous prose that would be thought-provoking, encouraging and insightful and with some grounding in reality. I was grossly mistaken. I don't know whether the leaf on the front cover is supposed to indicate the plant whose psychotropic properties inpired the author to pen this drivel, but I shall be wary of anything that bears a resemblance just in case.

Each page begins with the title of the work and continues with either a fantastically tedious platitude or a self-indulgent pronouncement of no substance, much less any message. Some examples:

When I loved myself enough, I was able to be treated to a $50 haircut and enjoy every minute of it.
When I loved myself enough, I saw beyond right and wrong and became neutral. At first I thought this was indifference; now I see the clarity that comes with neutrality.
When I loved myself enough, I began buying a hostess fruit pie for the teenager in me who loved them so. Once in a while, cherry.
When I loved myself enough, I could feel God in me and see God in you. That makes us divine. Are you ready for that?

What insufferable nonsense. Far from the 'peace and quiet joy' that the book's description suggests I should feel on reading these words, I've experienced only annoyance, disappointment and indignation at having been duped into paying for a volume of such meaningless claptrap.
