Product Description

Synopsis

Sebastian shares his dreams of exotic future careers with his doting dad. It is the end of a beautiful, busy day, and Sebastian the little tortoise should be asleep, but he is still wide awake, eagerly telling his father all the ideas he has for brilliant careers. When sleep finally comes, father and son have agreed that all these careers sound exciting, but fatherhood could just be the best career of all.

As a kindergarten teacher I've already used this lovely book as the basis for working with children. The 3- to 6-year-olds love looking at the illustrations and having the story read out to them. We talked about their parents' jobs and their own dream jobs. We also talked about the kids' favorite pets. Then the children drew pictures based on that. We even organised a little exhibition of those drawings in our kindergarten. "When I Grow Up ..." is a really nice book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A touching story of parental love 11 Dec 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
This story really touched us to the bottom of our hearts. It expresses exactly our emotions about being mother and father. Reading out the book to our two kids, we felt so close to them. In an artistically simple way, this book tells what parental love really means. The scene of Father turtle telling his son that his greatest wish has always been to become a father is so sweet and tender it brings tears to our eyes every time we read it. A simply beautiful book!

5.0 out of 5 stars My son's favourite bedtime story 6 Dec 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
My son Fabian loves this book, and so do I. It's a sweet story with funny scenes about Sebastian, the little turtle, and his wishes for occupations. Then, at the end of the day, when Father turtle and his son cuddle with each other, it's a peaceful moment of loving and caring for each other. When I read the book to him, my son always becomes quiet himself. I can only recommend this book to everyone to share it with their little children at bedtime.

2.0 out of 5 stars When I grow up... I want to be a bit cheesy 29 Aug 2009
Format:Paperback

The illustrations in this book are pretty, but the narrative is very simple and the sentiment a bit cheesy. Would possibly make a good Father's Day gift "from" son to father, although "My Clever Daddy" has more humour and covers a wider range of activities that child and father might do together. If you're after a general book for younger children (2-4 years) there are better books on the market (e.g. The Tiger Who Came to Tea, Tiddler, The Gruffalo, The Hungry Caterpillar, Where the Wild Things Are and so on).
