Knowing the next KGI book was due out I spent the previous week reading all the others in the series back to back. I never tire of reading the earlier books which are well written, full of kick ass alpha males, strong women and loads of action and heart-aching angst. When I got to Donovan's story (After the Storm) I felt it was light on action - see my review. This book has sadly continued in that vein.

I loved the idea of the worlds most beautiful woman, Eden Sinclair, falling for our scarred damaged hero Swanny and his total bewilderment at this happening is touching. Yes the story needed a gentler touch but too much focus was on the romance and the action such as it was seemed an after thought that was never fully explored. I rubbed my hands with glee at the thought of seeing Hancock again and was disappointed that more was not made of his involvement.

There was much repetition in the dialogue to the point that I could almost recite word for word what the characters were thinking because the same paragraphs showed up again and again in the book. How many times do we have to be told how good Eden is and how much sunshine she exudes. We get the picture.

When we finally got to the action at the end of the book it felt rushed and not fully explored although the potential was there with a very good twist.

As a fan of the series I do not want to see it end as we still have Joe, Rusty and Hancock, perhaps Resnick and Kyle Phillips to learn more about. Perhaps Maya needs to to take a step back and look at the direction the books are taking and re read her earlier 5* KGI books before writing the next one. Don't let this fantastic series just fizzle out. It would be a crime.

This is the ninth book in this very popular series that is centred around a military family. The Kelly family have all served in various parts of the military and their breadth of experience is something they put to good use working as a top secret recovery organisation . When something goes wrong and you need help then there's none better than KGI!
Swanson or Swanny as he's known served in Afghanistan with Nathan and Joe Kelly where he was captured ,tortured and left hideously disfigured. The Kelly's are a fiercely loyal family and when Swanny needed a job there was never a doubt that he belonged with them . Now adopted into the family business he's found his place in the world and if being a badass is called for then he's the one for the job!
Eden works as a model and she's slowly but surely climbing to the top of that cutthroat world. Hailed as one of the most beautiful women in the world she's somehow managed to keep her feet on the ground but her perfect world is about to come crashing down ! Edens father has a secret and it's been eating away at him but now that secret is about to raise it's ugly head and Eden is the one whose in danger of being bitten! She needs protection and it has to be the best but luckily her brother Ryker served with the Kelly's and Swanny so he knows just who to call. Swanny spent many a cold lonely night remembering the photos Ryker had of his lovely sister and now he can't quite believe that he's finally going to meet her. Swanny realises that women find his looks frightening but Eden sees beneath the scars and what she sees is all man!
I love the Kelly's and all the associated characters that have somehow been adopted into their clan . These fierce, hard working characters just leap off the page with their own special brand of troubleshooting .

Thought the romance started to quickly. One minute they met the next bam they are in bed and in love.
The book was entirely too slow paced for my liking. There was the initial danger then nothing else until three quarters of the way through. I have read all the kgi books and as disappointed in this one. There just wasn't enough happening for me.
Also I did not really like the main characters, I found eden saccharine sweet and swanky too unsure and whiny for an alpha bad ass.
I will read the following books though because I have enjoyed the others

I loved the earlier titles in the KGI series. This latest just didn't have the same appeal. Most of the book was taken up with Swanny's insecurities about why a beautiful model like Eden would be interested in him. Eden has as many insecurity issues as Swanny. Eden is supposed to have target on her head as revenge for something her father did but there is very little action in relation to this threat. Too much puppy love and not enough edge.

I have always enjoyed Mayas books but the last few books have been repetitive. Eden is like sunshine, Swanny is beautiful, the KGI team are besotted with their babies, we got that the first time. Action only near the end. Please Maya go back to how you used to write, as it seems you are just trying to fill a book with words. Looks like I'm gonna have to stop buying her books such a shame.

Just finished swanny 's story, I enjoyed the book and once again read late into the night. Love the story although the action was all at the last quarter of the book. I always enjoy this series and want more as we love all the K Kelly's and extended families. I have pre ordered the next . Thank you.
