Product Description

Product Description

How did the Universe begin? Why is there something rather than nothing? And what about the details of our consciousness and perception of these events? These are the questions that science has struggled to answer during its impossible search for the "theory to end all theories". But what if there is no "Theory of Everything?". What if we accept a Universe of unlimited complexity and age: and a purely natural world in which certain questions can have no answers? --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

When the author struck zero. 6 Dec 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The author starts off asking several basic, important questions about the universe such as the most challenging one, "Why is there something rather than nothing?"
He rambles around numerous subjects repeating matter covered ad infinitum by previous authors in the cosmology swamp, and never comes close to any answers for any of the questions, most of which have none with our current degree of understanding.
Hawkings' "Universe in a Nutshell" is far more entertaining, with numerous thought provoking illustrations, presenting a serious attempt to describe cosmological issues which are barely recognizable in Tayors' text.
A rather detailed description of the functions of our brains is included although it has little or no conclusion or connection with the rest of the book.
One is left with the feeling that the author has spent 195 really boring and disconnected pages saying sort of, "If it feels good, do it." - I think?
Pass on this one unless you can find it in your public library and suffer from insomnia.
The comment in the previous review is pertinent concerning the authors atheistic views which are the few discernible, specific vectors in the entire book.

Jumping on Stephen Hawkin's Bandwagon. 28 Oct 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is an interesting enough book, though covering much the same sort of ground as "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawkin. Unlike Stephen Hawkin, though, the author uses his book as a vehicle for atheist rhetoric.

There is no problem with that, per se. It is just that the author does not appear to want to investigate the weaknesses in his claims (as of course there are in all such theories, whether they be from atheists or theists).

SHOCKED BY KIRKUS' IGNORANCE & LACK OF RESEARCH 6 July 2004
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Dr. Breggin and his fellow noble and courageous whistleblowers expose the evil and fraud of the current (...) DOCTORS (Dr. Jay Lifton), in the mental "death" profession. Though BIG PHARMA and its whores in psychiatry, the FDA, government, politicians, etc. has done all in its power to discredit such whistleblowers, recent scandals exposing how BIGPHARMA hid studies that proved SSRI antidepressants cause suicide, violence, mania, etc. then used to give fraud, unproved, junk science DSM IV stigmas like bipolar disorder to trap the psychiatric slave (Dr. Thomas Szasz) for life, so our current evil society in its latest witch hunts can have new scapegoats. Kirkus Reviews should be obligated to cite the exact studies that prove without a doubt these junk science lables have a shred of scientific or medical evidence. Dr. Fred Baughman, famous child neurologist, did this and though the frauds of psychiatry or WHORES OF THE COURT cited much "volume," they could not provide a shred of proof. Dr. Baughman like Dr. Breggin and countless others have easily exposed the fraud of psychiatry as has Dr. Judith Herman, Dr. Paula Caplan, Dr. Colin Ross, Dr. Loren Mosher and a growing number of other people not being paid or backed by BIG PHARMA like the APA, psychiatry, NAMI, CHADD and other drug company front groups to cover up bad parenting, schools and society willing to even scapegoat its children!! See THE CULTURE OF NARCISSISM, WITHOUT CONSCIENCEand THE PEOPLE OF THE LIE for reasons for this growing evil.
