THE STRING-A-LONGS,were an American instrumental group,who are best remembered for recording the single track-"WHEELS"-,in 1961.-"AM I ASKING TOO MUCH"-was it's vocal flipside.
Of this groups seven single releases issued in the U.K.,only "WHEELS"[no.8.in'61]would chart here. This is a 27,track CD of many of their instrumental recordings,which comes with an informative eight pages of liner notes about the group and these instrumentals. Also on this CD is-THE STRING-A-LONGS-cover version of-"PERFIDIA"-which was originally recorded by,and a U.K. NO.4. hit in 1960,for-THE VENTURES-who were also an American instrumental group. Listed below is the U.K. seven single releases[they also had three EPs and an LP released-all '61/'63-with a further LP released in 1969-of all their hits,all were released on the London Record Label]. FIRST TIME I HEARD THE RECORDING OF "WHEELS" WAS BY THE STRING-A-LONGS APPROX.1960/1961,IT WAS ON THE AMERICAN LONDON LABEL, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS SOMETHING ELSE.JOE LOSS AND HIS ORCHESTRA ALSO RECORDED "WHEELS" BUT FOR ME THE STRING-A-LONGS MADE THIS THEIR OWN!!!

This exclusive sound of the 60's is still wonderful today.
Four unique Guitars accompanied by soft-brush background drums in a magic joyful combination. This is by far the best S-A-Ls CD I know on the market, it's produced by ACE UK, the ACEs in remastering! Must say also that the only other S-A-Ls fully instrumental CD I know: "The very Best of the S-A-Ls" made by Collectables has a very good sound Quality but contains only 12 songs, just over 25'. This is the only CD that should be called "The Best of the S-A-Ls" as it delivers practically all their biggest hits; 28 nice songs, over 1hr of very enjoyable music . I told you about ACE UK ,I will tell you the songs, as also these are not shown: 1.WHEELS 2.BRASS BUTTONS 3.SHOULD I 4.SCOTTIE 5.NEARLY SUNRISE 6.SUNDAY 7.MY BLUE HEAVEN 8.MATILDA 9.SKIPPIN' 1O.MINA BIRD 11.HAPPY MELODY 12.PANIC BUTTON 13.WALK DON'T RUN 14.SUMMERTIME 15.PERFIDIA 16.BULLDOG 17.SPINNIN' MY WHEELS 18.RED RIVER TWIST 19.TAKE A MINUTE 20.YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO. 21.TORQUAY 22. Very good music and sound quality with 20/28 songs in STEREO and the other 8 in clean clear mono. Unfortunately two of my favorites (SUNDAY and TWIST WATCH) are in mono but I'm sure ACE had no stereo tapes avaiable. I wonder why this jewel is so difficult to find, did ACE stop the production? I had to buy mine used and must say I'm very happy...If you like these guys and find one...don't let it go. Front or background this music finds here space anytime. always wanted it,

I always loved the song wheels and always wished there was more instramental music by the string-a-longs. I suppose there were albums out there, but I was never sure they would be all instramental. I just love this one. It is so much fun to listen to, and many of my friends like it as much as I do. I bought the tex mex teen magic of the string-a-longs and was extremely dissapointed in it because of the awful vocal tracks on it, and the relatively few wheels-like numbers. But, this one is just exactly what I wanted. Anyone who loves the song wheels will like it.

I heard of them more than 30 years ago on a LP. They bring memories and tell me how a guitar should be played in a small group. I am a music critic, no not much about music, but the playing is smooth and uptempo. Play this to any teenager and they would think it a new and upcomming group with new songs!
