4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but the One Power rules let it down, 31 Dec 2001
By Matt (castorlion@yahoo.com) (Hertfordshire, England) - See all my reviews
The book is excellent, and whilst the D20 system isn't perhaps the best choice to work with, it does mean that the basics will be instantly familiar to a large amount of experienced roleplayers; this gives the game an above average accessibility.
However, my major gripe is with the rules for the One Power. Using the D20 system is all well and good on the whole, but did they have to base the One Power system on the spell rules? I don't feel having set weaves does anything to reflect the flexibility of the one power, and I would prefer to see a system there which does- perhaps something like the mage system from White Wolf? Obviously, it would take some work on the part of the GM to adapt, but I feel it would result in a better game if the One Power is to be used by the players at all.
The One Power rules are the one flaw in an otherwise solid and satisfying game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect game system for the setting, 19 Nov 2001
By A Customer
If you've read the WOT books then this will certainly appeal to you. If you haven't read them then it may prompt you to read one of the greatest chronicles ever! It faithfully covers the books in all aspects (classes, skills, feats, One Power). The rules for the one power are excellant. They allow you to recreate weaves and talents found in the novels. The only problem is that some of the deadly talents are lost meaning that only the Forsaken, Rand Al Thor or Mazrim Taim know them. Hmmmmm... gonna be tricky trying to get Demandred or Moridin to show me skimming or Balefire!
As to the book itself! The artwork is excellant and the layout is brilliant.
What makes this setting perfect is the history behind it. The novels are so realistically and humanly complex and unlike any other setting, which will give great opportunity for adventures set in the wheel of time world. Hopefully this setting will last because it would be great to see more top quality supplemants for this world. Providing it survives the Last Battle that is!! Ahem!

3.0 out of 5 stars Why oh why D20?, 30 Oct 2001
By A Customer
Well liked the books(most of them) and this really just opens the WOT world up for us to monkey around in fighting for the light or giving ourselves over to the sweet, warm, comforting sexu... *slap* (sorry) dark. My real gripe with this book os that it runs with the awful, clunky D20 system. If only this was done with chaosium's system it would be better(course not too much hassle to convert). Which leads me to me next point this book by itself average, D100 could make it better but never great. Now if you know ur WOT books pretty well then fine add this book and u got a great enviroment to play with. But then u'll probably only buy this if u liked the series
