The wheel of Surya 7 Dec 2010
A Kid's Review
Format:Paperback
I adored this wonderful book and have already red it twice. I think Jamila Gavin has really captured the characters and has written an amazing story. It is a bout a girl named Marvinder and a boy, Jaspal they live in India and then a war breaks out, the children set off on a mission to find their father who left years ago to study in England but things got complicated. I won`t ruin the end but I would REALLY recommend this book and am looking forward to reading the next two books, eye of the horse and track of the wind. When I picked this book off the shelf at my Grandma`s house I had nothing to read so I started flicking the pages. I got told off rather a few times for reading at night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! I am a mum of two and my son(9yrs) was due to go and visit Jamila Gavin with school but it was cancelled unfortunately.I started to read the book though and I couldn't put it down. Although my son didn't read it, he kept asking for updates as he liked the storyline so much. I thought it was a little old for his age and wondered what age it was aimed at. I loved the book though and loved all the characters but I wasn't keen on Govind and felt sorry for the children - though they are incredibly strong and brave. I have just ordered number two in the trilogy and can't wait to start it! Thank-you Jamila Gavin for a lovely book.

Really enjoyed this book, well written and gave a good insight into history of India but at the same time a good story. Couldn't put it down and looking forward to reading the next two in the series.

Brilliant start, odd ending
Started off well, with a good description of life in India just before the war. Both the children and their plight seemed realistic, and were dealt with sensitively. Read more
