As a relationship developer in a big Global professional services firm, I have many years experience of networking and cold calling at CEO level in many very large companies.I run my own training courses on the topic of issue based relationship development and coach on soft skilss myself. I occasionally read books of this kind and am generally very cynical about them. This book is however an exception. It is the first of its kind that I have read from cover to cover in one sitting. It is very readable and the authors style is amusing down to earth and grounded in real examples.Although it covers many areas and topics with which I am familiar and in fact consider myself a very competent practitioner, it is not only full of really good practical tips but provides a fantastic reminder of just how good you need to be to win in a very competitive environment.
I thoroughly recommend it not only to relative novices but also to seasoned professionals.I have bought a number of copies for my colleagues and friends and will often refer to it as a very useful toolkit.
I hope there will be a sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars An extraordinary primer for anyone who wants to get ahead in business ... or life. 21 May 2008
By Jason Thomson - Published on Amazon.com
I've had the chance to see Mr. Jeffries speak on a few occasions. He consistently delivers those 1-second "soft-selling" tips that have meant the difference in my own business life. When I heard he'd written a book, I was excited to see how he and -- and I could -- take things to the next level.

"What's up with your handshake" is a powerful strategic tool all around. It's given me dozens of new ideas on how to improve my overall communication and networking skills. It's a fun read (the stories keep it from being a dry collection of lists) and well worth my time and money. I know I'll never shake hands, give a business card or make a phone call the same way again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Valuable Insight To Help Get Ahead In Work And Life 24 Jun 2008
By S. Reid - Published on Amazon.com
For years, Mark Jeffries has impressed audiences with his witty and insightful advice on the "soft skills" or strategic communication techniques needed to get an edge in business and in life. I was delighted to see these tips brought to life in his new book!

Jeffries attacks the challenge of sub-par interpersonal behaviour with a blunt assertion - get the soft skills right, or struggle in business and life. It is common sense. It is something we all know we need to know. And yet it is something that each of us has struggled with in one area or another at some point in our lives - be it a lousy handshake, poor fashion sense, slumped posture, the list goes on.

Jeffries' writing is conversational and easy to follow. His advice: practical and to the point. This is a first-rate handbook for the rising star in business or any other aspect of life. I highly recommend you pick up a copy for yourself.
5.0 out of 5 stars A very profitable book! 28 April 2009
By M. Wine - Published on Amazon.com
Mark Jeffries has a way about him that make people like him. And in this book, "What's Up With Your Handshake?", he teaches how to do it for yourself. I have seen him "work his magic" several times in person, which is why I bought his book.

I had won a small scope of business by unwittingly, using one of his methods. When used purposefully, and combined with several of his ideas, I quickly won some major business accounts. The best part, is that after his coaching, the business was won seemingly without effort.

I would highly recommend his work.
