Book Description

5 July 2007

The perfect book for introducing a young child to to the concept of where babies come from and how they grow. This is a great book to share and discuss all the changes going on inside 'mummy's tummy'.

Every month a new picture shows how big baby is and how far along a timeline (featured at the foot of each spread) baby has moved. The real attractiion of the book is the 'life-size' nature of the drawings, giving mother and child a fantastic opportunity to really explore what is happening, how big baby is in context to everyday objects and what baby can hear or indeed eats!

The flexible paperback binding allows for the book to folded gently across a growing tummy, helping to show a young child where the new baby is.

The final spread uses a giant fold down flap to reveal the fully grown baby ready to be born and greet the world.

A simple glossary is provided with explanations of the main terms used in the book

A great book to help in the preparation for a new addition to a family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for pre-school children 30 Mar 2008
I bought this book for my 4yr old now we're expecting our 3rd child. She was two and a half when her brother was born so remembers that well and is happy with issues such as staying at Nanny's, a new baby in the house, sharing toys etc. This book deals more with the biology of the growing baby without discussing the facts of life or being too graphic. It has great actual-size pictures as well as amusing facts such as how many times the baby does a wee! Just the book I was looking for - thanks Abby!

I bought this book for my 5 year old son during my second pregnancy. He'd always wanted to be a big brother, but during the pregnancy he got scared as he didn't know what to expect. The book is divided into 9 'chapters' with each describing what is happening to Mum's body and the baby's development. The descriptions are clear and easy to understand. Eg the baby's size is described as 'the size of a bean', 'a 1L carton of milk', 'a pineapple', 'a pumpkin' - so I could go out and buy those items - I too learnt a lot from it! The book itself is designed so when you are reading it one page has all the information on it and the opposite page is for the Mum to place in front of her tummy so show how the baby is inside her. It is visually appealing and the level of information is enough for a child aged around 4-8. The diagrams are drawings rather than real images.
Highly recommended!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Whats inside your tummy mummy 18 Mar 2009
I found that my two year old didn't really understand the contents of this book. I think it's a lovely book but maybe more suitable for older children.
