Admittedly it took me a couple of readings to really get how powerful this information is. Once you properly understand the message of the book, it changes the way you think about success, work - it changes how you think.. The book reveals the underlying principle common to all those who achieve profound levels of success. It's not about skills, talents, innate abilities - the true secret to success is first in knowing who you really are, and then being able to apply that in your life. The book shows you how to do both. Totally recommended. What's Your Genius? How The Best THINK For Success In The New Economy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius is Ingenuous! 24 Aug. 2009
By Deborah Frey - Published on

Although the cliché, "You can be anything you want to be" falls short of reality, Jay Niblick's book, "What's Your Genius?" helps us to understand that the most satisfying success in life may be as basic as, "You can be who you are". The "applied power" we can embrace, is a tool to unlock our potential to solve "The Problem".

Why is it important for people to achieve fulfillment in the workplace? Findings show that the next generations of workers, including the millennials, believe that their success is defined by quality of work life, autonomy in the workplace, and balance between personal and professional life. The contributions of seasoned, expert workers are needed to build the valuable legacy systems necessary for healthy, productive organizations. If finding their genius is part of the fulfillment requirement, to solve "The Problem", workers can realize their potential with strengthened organizations and balanced lives--All good outcomes for a better world.

"What's Your Genius?" is a fascinating book, and toolset, to help the reader develop an understanding of their own genius. Why "Genius" rivals my long-time giveaway favorite, Tim Sanders' "Love is the Killer App": A profound summation, underscored, "Only when we are what we are, and our roles and objectives are true to that--only then can we reach the 5th level of performance." Jay Niblick

[Disclaimer: I am a certified consultant affiliated with the author's company.]

Niblick brings a fresh perspective to what it means to be a knowledge worker in today's business world. He explains how the Industrial Revolution started the concept of defining the job (the role is "sacrosanct") and squeezing people (who are "sacrificial") to fit.

There is a better way that doesn't have to be a win-lose in either direction for the employer and employee. In particular, he focuses on how the employee can take control of his or her career and negotiate jobs from a position of strength.

With companies discarding employees at the drop of a stock price, this book offers a practical path for charting your own future, whether as an employee or entrepreneur.

5.0 out of 5 stars What's Your Genius 20 July 2010
By Paul Allan Ream - Published on

Jay Niblick is a leader in the field of identifying talent. This book was written with me/you in mind. That's alot different than business books designed for the employer or the entrepreneur. In What's Your Genius, Niblick focusses on a process that is a sure fire method to success in business and in life. It first shows how one can identify WHAT we are (our unique talents) , WHY we make decisions that we do (our motivators)and lastly HOW we behave (privately and in a crowd). Understanding these aspects of ourselves will allow us to become AUTHENTIC. This book is all about BEING AUTHENTIC which is the key to success and ultimately happiness. Jay has uniquely identified one major fallacy in our lives and that is we spend way too much time trying to fit into our roles rather than finding roles that fit us. Had I had the tools that Jay presents some 40 years ago I would have been more successful and certainly more fullfilled. As it is, I have used these tools as of late and my current roles fit me and I am becomming successful and more fullfilled. What more could you ask of a coach and of a book. I highly recommend this book to young and old alike. It's never too late to find our best life and the earlier the better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book 28 Feb. 2012

This book is very good and easy to read. It helped me to realize that one of my main reasons why I haven't achieved the level of success and fulfillment I'm after is because I've allowed my success to depend too much on my non-talents. I now know what I need to do.

The only thing I don't like is that when I did the Genius profile as an activity, the author said he'd send me the results but I never got them. That's why I give this a 4-star review versus a 5-star. I hate when people say they will do something and not do it.
