A must-read for new parents.
-- The Baby Directory, August 2008.

From the Author

You've got what seem like a million and one things to buy for a person you've never even met. Everyone's offering conflicting advice - one friend swears by her fancy nappy disposal bin with its de-odorising refill cartridges, another thinks they're an insane waste of money. One friend waxes lyrical about baby slings, another just couldn't get the hang of hers.
Advice on the internet is no more definitive and who knows whether that shop assistant has your best interests or their sales figures at heart.

Welcome to the world of baby shopping. Think of us as your own personal shoppers, guiding you impartially through the jungle of baby kit and easing some of the stress of preparing for your newborn's arrival.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it early! 2 Oct 2008
This book was really useful as an expectant first time mum. It outlines, in a no-nonsense way, what your purchase priorities should be, essential versus non-essential items and some idea of the best brands. A personal shopper and Which? subscription all rolled into one! I'd most definitely say this is a must-read for all first time parents

5.0 out of 5 stars Best baby book for a bloke 7 April 2010
This book is exactly what I was looking for and having bought several boooks is by far the best book I have - already read it twice.

Simply lists out what you need in simple chapters with ticks, crosses and ? for items that get mixed reviews plus a few recommendations of good makes and what to look for.

Would have been lost without it, a bit overwhelmed with what a babygro was beforehand but both of us feel very organised now.

Would suggest looking at the mother and baby awards online in combination with the book to get the best items/options you need.

5.0 out of 5 stars I would be lost without it! 31 July 2009
What a fantastic book! It is packed full of practical, impartial advice on which products to buy for your baby and also recommendations on which brands are best. It can be overwhelming trying to work out all the things you need to buy in preparation for the birth of your baby and then as they grow older. My baby is five months old now and I am still referring back to this book. I have made many purchases based on the recommendations given and I have not been disappointed yet. This book will save you time, stress and money. Well worth buying!

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical advice for every mum-to-be 28 Feb 2009
By leenie
Like most first-time mums I was confused by the overwhelming range of products for new babies. I had no idea about what clothes, pram or car seat to buy or whether items like baby seats and nappy disposal units were really worth the cash.
This book is written by two straight-talking mums who have tried almost every baby product under the sun and tell you what baby products are essential, a nice advantage or a complete waste of cash.
The authors explain the pros and cons of many baby items and give brilliant tips on what to look out for when investing in an expensive purchase such as a cot or buggy.
I followed most of their advice and avoided splurging on any tempting yet unnecessary purchases. Now that my newborn is five weeks old I can say the book hasn't let me down and has saved me a fortune. So I will continue to put my trust in the authors' advice on items needed for older babies when the time comes.
