Praise for Mark Edwards

'Mark Edwards achieves what other writers yearn for, by creating characters that genuinely feel like real people, individuals you know personally-and then puts them into the scariest of situations...' —Elizabeth Haynes

'Astonishingly good.' —Peter James

'Creating characters you really feel for from the off, it is the incredible amount of dread which drips off the page which raises this book above its counterparts.' —Luca Veste

'Loaded with the same emotional intensity and pervasive unease that made The Magpies such a gripping novel, What You Wish For is a slick and twisting story which tests the line between love and obsession, belief and delusion, against a backdrop of bizarre cults and mysterious deaths. Genuinely unputdownable this is another must read from Mark Edwards.' —Eva Dolan, author of Long Way Home

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping and unusual thriller 25 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Having really enjoyed the author's other books (both solo and in partnership with Louise Voss) I was very excited to read this book. The storyline is offers something different, a mix of love bordering on obsession, the hunt for a missing girl and the shadowy world of cults. The main character, Richard, is a joy to read, and the people he comes across on the way to find his missing girlfriend, Marie are realistically portrayed - even if they're not the type of characters you might be used to reading about - delusional misfits and hints of a very shady underworld where aliens - yes - the bulbous headed abduction type - hold the key to the future... for some people, at least. The story harks back to a time when alien sightings were almost commonplace in the media, and the people who believed... and those cynics who flatly refused to. Richard is grounded in reality, yet he is drawn into a world where he has to question the truth if he wants to find his girl. This is not a sci-fi novel - this is a novel about people from different backgrounds being thrown together into the mix. Ultimately it is a story about losing someone, and coming to the realisation that they may not want to be found. Fast-paced and very enjoyable, this is addictive reading from a master of the page-turner.

Highly recommended.

Thank you to the author for the advance review copy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't be put off by the mention of aliens! 17 Sep 2014
By Saint
Format:Kindle Edition
This story is not about aliens, just about people having beliefs which are more important than anything else. I wasn't quite sure where the storyline was heading but I stuck with it and was pleasantly surprised by the pace and twists and turns. Not up to the quality of "The Magpies" which I definitely recommend. Saintrichardjames

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant Read 29 Aug 2014

Format:Kindle Edition
Loved the book. Totally enthralling from start to finish. A brilliant example of cult behaviour. The emotions of love and obsession are created with true feeling and insight. This is the first book I have read by Mark Edwards and I will definitely be catching up on the others. Perhaps there will be a follow up ?

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, enjoyable read 9 Sep 2014
Format:Paperback
I really enjoyed this book. A very different storyline to the other Mark Edwards books I've read, but good all the same. I liked the UFO storyline, and the fact that the ending was open ended - though I have made my mind up what happened! It's an easy read, and I read it in just over a week. Worth trying out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great novel 27 Mar 2014
By Alina
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the second book by this author that I read and I must say that after reading it, my status as an Edwards' novels fan is stronger than ever. I have to confess that throughout the book I sometimes thought to myself that this is going to be a silly alien abduction novel. I could not have been more wrong. In a very original and unexpected way, the author speaks about the fundamental things in life: belonging, loving, believing, family, passion and faith. The characters are exceptionally drawn and all the powerful emotions they go thorugh are very well described, it actually gave me feeling that this could happen in real life, I could see something like this on the news. As for the plot, to say it is brilliantly crafted is an understatement.
The ending got me thinking, not just about everything that happened to the characters, but about life and what really is important. I was taken by surprise when I found myself thinking about the people I truly love in my life and how much they mean to me. I think this proves that Edwards is a brilliant writer that manages not only to keep you entertained while you read his novel, but makes you think about it hours after you finish it.

3.0 out of 5 stars an entertaining read 21 Aug 2014

A good page turner, but a little incredible. the writing is clumsy in places and reads as if it could benefit from a good editor, but this didn't detract from the story.

After reading 'The Magpies' which I loved, I choice this book by Mark Edwards. Unfortunately I could only give this book one star because I didn't like it at all. If you like reading about UFO's then you will love this! Sorry I didn't.
