Synopsis
This work deals with the Gospel according to the Church of Stop Shopping- a manifesto for activists and fans of 'No Logo' and 'Culture Jam' and the hilarious companion to the new documentary by Super Size Me film-maker Morgan Spurlock. Founded by performance artist and activist Bill Talen (aka Reverend Billy), the Church of Stop Shopping is on a mission to protest against the modern culture of commercialization and consumption that leads to environmental devastation, social iniquity and other dangers both measurable and immeasurable. Reverend Billy first began preaching in Times Square, New York, and has since been touring America incessantly spreading the word. What Would Jesus Buy? is published to coincide with the release of Morgan Spurlock's latest film of the same name. Spurlock's documentary, which follows Reverend Billy on a month-long revival tour across America will be launched at next January's Sundance festival. This spoof of a religious tract and prayer book is designed to make readers laugh, think and to stop the consumerism - with the exception of this one book, of course - that Reverend Billy believes is destroying our planet.

The book covers: how to start your own Church of Stop Shopping; Reverend Billy's retail interventions; Reverend Billy's epistles - explanations of Church doctrine; confessions and responses from the Reverend; and, how to convert someone to the Church of Stop Shopping. It includes many other wonderful pieces that will entertain, convince, convert, and give readers actions they can take to become a member (even an occasionally backsliding one) of the Church of Stop Shopping.
